DePaul University
United States, Illinois, Chicago
1 East Jackson Boulevard (Show on map)
Nov 12, 2024
The UNION rate for this position is $55.55/hr.
The hours for the position are 7am - 3:30pm Monday-Friday. Overtime may be necessary.
MUST be in good standing with the electrical union.

What You'll Do:

1. Installation of electrical panels, disconnect switches and starters. Work on baseboard and hanging unit heaters. General wiring of electrical appliances. Check, change, and install switches and receptacles. Install telephone data receptacles. Install temporary panels and related equipment for special events. Testing of emergency transfer switches. This requires the actual tripping of emergency service transfer switches. Troubleshoot wire problems using special electronic equipment (Pasar unit). It includes the connection of special electronic equipment used to trace circuits and other electrical problems. Install light fixtures, change light bulbs, ballasts, and sockets both inside and outside of the buildings during all seasons.

2. Install, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems and security panels, BRG displays & speakers, heat detectors, smoke detectors, pull stations, security cameras, door readers, voice & data ports.

3. Check and install circuit breakers and fuses 120 volt to 480 volt. This would require the unbolting and removal of panel covers, which in some cases are heavy. Caution must be used when removing a cover from a live panel, so as not to fall or drop the cover into the panel.

4. Motor work. Building engineers always remove and replace motors, electricians are required to wire the motors once they are installed. This work requires wiring of motors only. The actual lifting of motors is completed by others.

5. Preventative maintenance on panel switchgear equipment. This work requires unbolting of major switchgear panel covers, which are very heavy, some are two men operations. Caution must be maintained when removing a cover from a live panel. The tightening of all electrical connections within the switchgear is then performed. This requires the use of a socket type torque wrench.
