Job Summary:



The Department of Pharmacology is a collegial and collaborative interdisciplinary scientific group, with strengths in cancer research, structural biology, epigenetics, neuroscience, cellular optogenetics, and systems biology. Faculty in the department study basic/translational aspects of human disease. Two major foci include neuropharmacology and synaptic signaling, and cancer biology. This is an exciting opportunity to work in this collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Work in the strategic area of prostate cancer research in the department of pharmacology's cancer research focus group and within the comprehensive cancer center of Colorado.
  • Work on NIH-funded research studying molecular subtypes of lethal prostate cancer with a focus on genomic alterations that affect androgen signaling.
  • Use of cutting-edge genomic approaches to study chromatin architecture, protein/DNA interactions, gene expression and RNA isoforms. Techniques include:

    • Mammalian tissue culture
    • Cut and Run
    • RNAseq
    • Multispectral imaging


  • Independent research as well as team-oriented studies.
  • Management of day-to-day lab functions.
  • Maintenance of inventory, ordering, stock preparation and regulatory requirements.



Work Location:



Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

This successful applicant for this job will work in a collaborative environment where several labs are studying cell biology and cell signaling aspects of multiple cancers including breast and prostate cancer.

Outside the department of Pharmacology other labs have a shared focus on hormonal signaling in hormone-dependent cancers (Breast, Prostate, Ovarian). While the focus of the current position is on prostate cancer there is opportunity to interact with other researchers in the institution on other aspects of hormonal signaling, particularly in breast cancer.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.

    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.


  • Three years professional level research experience.


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Master's degree or higher in biology with experience in molecular biology and genetics.
  • Four (4) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Expert knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Expert ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • Expert level knowledge of genomics, genetics, and molecular approaches.
  • Knowledgeable on molecular biology, gene expression, and cancer.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Laboratory organizational skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, including documentation and research integrity is essential.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $60,882 - $77,442.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
