Inova Schar Cancer Institute is looking for a dedicated Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplant Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join the team. This role will be full-time day shift from Full-time: Monday - Friday with rotating weekend call. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible. The Bone Marrow Transplant Advanced Practice Provider under general supervision and in accordance with APP standardized procedures/ protocol: Triage and management of the transplant patient as part of a collaborative transplant team, as well as counseling for patients and families throughout the transplant process. Physical examination and assessment. Working in collaboration with the patient's referring provider as well as other members of the patient's care team to ensure optimal patient experience and outcomes. Bone Marrow Transplant Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Responsibilities:
- Conducts in-depth interviews with Bone Marrow Transplant patients, constructs comprehensive medical histories, performs physical examinations, and explores patient's interpretation of health needs as it relates to their infusion center visit diagnoses.
- Ensure patient information, visit history, refer outs, lab follow-up, phone calls, and consults are carefully and completely documented in the electronic medical record.
- Evaluates and manages patients with urgent complaints determines appropriate patient disposition including escalating to hospital based care when necessary.
- Monitors patient safety and well-being through the bone marrow transplant process including work-up and post transplant care
- Directly performs or orders appropriate diagnostic studies and interprets finished results.
- Instructs and counsels patients and families regarding preventive care, medical problems, psychological problems, and use of prescribed treatments and drugs.
- Writes orders to increase, decrease or change medications.
- Identifies and records pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarizing charts, changing orders when appropriate and notifying the responsible provider of changes in the patient's condition.
- Educates/coaches fellow staff members including RNs
- Must be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Must enjoy long-term relationships with patients undergoing intense therapy.
Additional Requirements:
- Work schedule: Full-time: Monday - Friday with rotating weekend call
- Education: For Nurse Practitioners: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice or graduate of a post-masters certificate program for nurse practitioners; For Physician Assistants: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Experience: Two years of Advanced Practice Oncology experience; BMT experience preferred.
- Certification - Basic Life Support prior to start
- Licensure - Licensed Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner; If Nurse Practitioner: RN Compact License(depending on State of primary residence) AND a license (or eligibility for) as a nurse practitioner or physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia AND "Drug Enforcement Administration License" (if prescribing controlled substances).
