POSITION CONCEPT:

This position works to develop, enhance, and communicate the company's strategic plan and business priorities for Tampa Electric. Efforts include independent research, analysis, communication, managing projects, and working collaboratively across the company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Strategy Planning and Analysis: Independently researches industry trends, external forces and signposts, to analyze impacts and implications to Tampa Electric. Comparative analysis to on financial and operational performance, goals and plans to develop new strategies or modify current strategies within the Tampa Electric strategic plan, operational business plan or roadmaps. Supports corporate strategy planning and implementation life cycle including external scan, internal analysis, strategy development, facilitated discussions with management, oral and written presentation, communication, tracking and reporting of strategic plan and/or strategic initiatives.
  • Energy Policy: Analyzes key strategies to determine where policy support is required to advance Tampa Electric strategic priorities. Establishing and maintaining alignment between Federal and state legislative and regulatory policy and business strategy by coordinating issue analysis, white paper development and position statements. Provides analysis and support reviewing state and federal legislative and regulatory activities affecting Tampa Electric to determine opportunity windows to drive change. Coordinates and assists in cross functional teams with the purpose of evaluating the convergence of emerging energy policy issues and implication to our business strategy or operations.
  • Research, Analysis and Engage on Company Priorities and Initiatives: Active engagement in leading, participating or managing projects with teams to address company priorities and initiatives. Track company statistics and metrics that are commonly used for investor and board presentations. Stay current on industry trends, conduct research and analysis on specific issues or areas of interest. Manage projects through the project management lifecycle of concept development, planning, execution, and delivery of final work products. Project management includes coordination of team sites, documentation, trackers and plans, and the proactive management of a team to drive execution through to final deliverables.
  • Communication: Effective written communication and visualization of information to drive superior work products to communicate the conclusions of analysis (requires proficiency in excel and Powerpoint). Memorialize strategy deliverables and promotes awareness of the publications and efforts, participate in department presentations or TECO 101. Establishes and maintain effective communications to translate the advancement of our business strategy to the desired external policy or regulation in concise and straightforward business language. Establish relationships with internal stakeholders, federal, state and local agencies and organizations to communicate the company's activities and position on energy policy concerns.



EDUCATION:

Required: Minimum bachelor's degree in either accounting, finance, economics, engineering or business.

Preferred: Graduate degree in a related field.

Preferred: CPA, PMP

EXPERIENCE:

Level 1 - Business Strategy Analyst



  • Assist in the creation of strategy materials (for annual board meeting and subsequent communication), performing industry research and trend analysis, benchmarking comparison of operational and financial metrics. Organizes and manages work projects in all phases including concept development, planning, design, delivery and reporting. Receives close supervision on new aspects of non-routine assignments; performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of projects and initiatives. Prepare analyses, develop insights, document and communicate the information in concise and compelling ways (visualized in graphs/charts, in powerpoint/excel, or written reports). Works with highly confidential and sensitive company information.


Required: Minimum of three (3)years' relevant work experience in utility business operations or functional responsibilities (e.g. research, data analysis, financial analysis, strategy development) or related energy industry and/or regulatory policy issues with a basic understanding of utility operations and planning functions.

Level 2 - Business Strategy Analyst Senior



  • Leads portions of the strategy materials, leads the information collection and synthesis of industry trends and external forces shaping our strategy, performs analysis and benchmarking comparison of operational and financial metrics. Actively monitors, and reports on utility industry policy and regulatory trends. Works independently on tasks and assignments, and manages projects through life cycles. May have significant role in training, orientation, assigning work or supervising other employees; has limited authority for performing work on an individual basis with quasi-supervisory responsibility over other employees as may be assigned; may prepare analyses and reports on an independent basis. May work directly and individually with executive leaders at TECO or other affiliates or Emera. Works with highly confidential and sensitive company information.


Required: Minimum of eight (8) years' relevant work experience in related energy and regulatory policy issues and/or in the electrical utility field with a good understanding of utility operations and planning functions. Minimum of four years' relevant business strategy work experience in the energy industry.

Level 3 - Business Strategy Analyst Lead



  • Leads portions of the strategy materials, leads the information collection and synthesis of industry trends and external forces shaping our strategy, performs analysis and benchmarking comparison of operational and financial metrics. Leads projects and strategic initiatives, including all phases of project management and leading meetings, workshops, etc. Actively monitors, and reports on utility industry policy and regulatory trends. Works independently on tasks and assignments, and manages projects through life cycles. Has significant role in training, orientation, assigning work or supervising other employees; has limited authority for performing work on an individual basis with quasi-supervisory responsibility over other employees as may be assigned; may prepare analyses and reports on an independent basis. May work directly and individually with executive leaders at TECO or other affiliates or Emera. Works with highly confidential and sensitive company information.


Required: Minimum of ten (10) years' relevant work experience in related energy and regulatory policy issues and/or in the electrical utility field with a good understanding of utility operations and planning functions. Minimum of five years' relevant business strategy work experience in the energy industry.

  • Work as a team member as department tasks dictate including administrative tasks.
  • Prioritize tasks according to internal and external deadlines; able to work in fast-paced office environment with a high-volume and dynamic workload.
  • Proficient with financial and data analysis and use of MS Excel and Powerpoint



WORK CONDITIONS:

Primarily work week, 40 hours but could be nights or weekends under deadlines. Primarily indoors, office environment and in an open environment subject to noise. Fast-paced, stressful at times.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ REQUIREMENTS

Normal working conditions with occasional weekend and overtime requirements, including on-call rotational support.
