Geotechnical Project Engineer

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Project Engineer to join our Geotechnical team in Charleston, South Carolina. Are you ready to contribute your education and knowledge to meaningful projects? Join us at S&ME!

As a Geotechnical Project Engineer, you will oversee the management and execution of geotechnical engineering services across Kentucky and neighboring states. Your projects will encompass subsurface explorations, slope stability evaluations, construction support services, and more, supporting a variety of civil infrastructure projects including roadways, bridges, and buildings.

Your Day-to-Day:



  • Data Evaluation: Evaluate and synthesize intricate geotechnical laboratory test results and field data to inform project decisions.
  • Engineering Expertise: Apply robust geotechnical engineering principles to analyze shallow and deep foundations, slope stability, and settlement. Provide recommendations for ground improvement where necessary.
  • Communication: Regularly communicate with subcontractors and external clients to ensure project alignment. Assist in training junior staff and contribute to business development efforts for S&ME.
  • Technical Reporting: Write detailed reports, prepare comprehensive proposals, and actively participate in marketing and business development pursuits.
  • Leadership: Lead by example, actively supporting internal policies and practices, including health and safety, risk management, project management, and quality management.



What You Bring:



  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Mining, or a related engineering field
  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain
  • Excellent computer skills including at a minimum, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, AutoCAD



Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment:



  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, as needed
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Traveling out-of-town and possibly overnight for assignments as needed
