The Role

The Computer Operations Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, scheduling, and support of our mainframe systems. This role requires an understanding of mainframe technologies, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Please review the responsibilities of the position below. This is not an IT or Network Operations position. It is responsible for the scheduling and running of our legacy programs in a mainframe environment.

Location and Schedule

This is a Work From Home position.

The Team operates 24/7/365. There are 3 shifts which are 8 hours x 5 days. Candidates must be able to work any shift on a rotation basis.

You must reside in one of these states for consideration.

Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming

The Main Responsibilities
  • Schedules and controls computer runs and/or executes batch-oriented programs in a large-scale computer processing environment.
  • Conducts exception monitoring and problem resolution for batch runs in MVS, Integrated Access Billing Systems (IABS), Onlines, Information Management System (IMS) Control Regions, IMF, CICS, and MQ, as well as some Midrange applications.
  • Applies computer production schedule, ensures user requirements have been met and that resources are available, prioritizes jobs, modifies production schedule as needed, and modifies job control language/execs.
  • Executes computer production procedures, monitors and controls batch jobs and complex on-line applications, maintains detailed documentation on jobs, provides job status, and verifies jobs are completed properly.
  • Monitors system performance and diagnoses complex application problems.
  • Coordinates system/application interfaces to avoid propagation of errors (e.g., outage, missed commitment, abend).
  • Resolves production or application problems and may escalate them as necessary.
  • Assists with design for back-out/restart and recovery.
  • Executes emergency procedures and data alteration as prescribed.
  • Organizes and/or participates in SWAT and Service Outage Analysis calls.
  • Manipulates the systems, batch jobs (e.g., reruns, force in jobs/tables and JCL changes) in real-time to correct errors and resolve problems.
  • Utilizes, adds, and executes job control language (JCL) associated with mainframe computer consoles in conjunction with access and software in a NON-MVS and/or MVS/JES3 environment.
  • Interfaces with computer system users, team members, clients, and support groups by performing problem analysis and problem resolution.
What We Look For in a Candidate

Required

  • Experience with mainframe system operations
  • Must be able to work any shift on a rotation basis 24/7/365 including weekends and holidays

Preferred

  • Experience with Control M or other similar scheduling tools
  • JCL coding experience

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.

This position is eligible for either short-term incentives or sales compensation. Director and VP positions also are eligible for long-term incentive.
