Job Objective: The Spiritual Counselor will *spiritually counsel individuals with various disaffiliations including but not limited to addictions, including alcohol, drugs, gambling, chronic homelessness, etc. They complete counseling and spiritual interviews with beneficiaries, conduct counseling sessions, teach program related classes, develop, and track the progress of rehabilitation plans and document progress of the work therapy component. Maintaining relevant and real time case notes in the Service Point database is required, as well as adding all completed services that include but are not limited to spiritual counseling. The typical shift for this position will be 2nd shift (inclusive of evening hours). Some weekends and holidays will be required.

*All counseling sessions completed in the ARC Programs are classified as spiritual counseling.

Essential Functions:



  1. Conduct in-depth interviews with newly admitted beneficiaries (counseling and spiritual assessments, self-sufficiency matrix, short form, and full intakes).




  1. Assist beneficiaries to understand and overcome social and emotional problems, through individual/group spiritual counseling.




  1. Conduct classes and group sessions for beneficiaries including but not limited to interactive journaling and group counseling.




  1. Design and manage individual rehabilitation plans for beneficiaries. Utilize the program offered by the ARC, and when necessary, ancillary services from other community agencies.




  1. Monitor beneficiaries to evaluate effectiveness of rehabilitation program and adapt rehabilitation goals and plan as needed.




  1. Update the Self-Sufficiency Matrix for each assigned beneficiary (as goals are achieved) for interim and follow-up progress.




  1. Maintenance and security of active online beneficiary files. Secure appropriate background information from other agencies and institutions. Complete weekly case notes, weekly rehabilitation plan progress notes and add appropriate services to each beneficiary file in a timely manner.




  1. Prepare formal work therapy evaluations and adjustment reports at intervals established by the centers policies and procedures. Partner with the work therapy supervisor in providing a therapeutic environment at the work therapy sites.




  1. Develop and implement special projects, programs, and services as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation Services.




  1. Provide statistical information to the personnel responsible for the preparation of monthly statistics.




  1. Assess spiritual needs of beneficiaries, make referrals to Chaplain or Administrator as needed.




  1. Participate in In-Service Training and local seminars/workshops to enhance counseling skills.




  1. Accurately complete data entry of case notes and services in current electronic data management system within assigned deadlines.




  1. Support the mission statement of The Salvation Army.
