The Sr. Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of complex projects and programs governed by the company Project Management Office (PMO). This cross-functional leadership position requires strong collaboration with engineering, operations, product, and various business units. As a key advocate within the technology organization, the Sr. Project Manager will guide teams through complex program lifecycles, from planning to execution, ensuring successful organizational and technical change management. They'll work closely with executive stakeholders, including members of the C-suite, to align on change management strategies and drive the execution of those plans. The Sr. Project Manager is persuasive, disciplined, and an independent-thinker with proven ability to establish credibility and deliver results. Responsibilities Sponsor/Stakeholder Management
- Collaborates with business sponsors at senior levels within the organization
- Anticipates, understands, and manages stakeholder expectations
- Builds trust and confidence to enhance partnerships through reliable delivery, and consultative advisory services
- Works with stakeholders to help shape solutions
- Effectively communicates with stakeholders at appropriate levels of detail and setting appropriate context
- Effectively facilitates and manages meetings to accomplish objectives within the allotted time
- Directs multiple complex projects simultaneously that may or may not be related as a program of work
Business Technology Management
- Proactively and continuously works with technology group to identify ways to optimize delivery of solutions to the business and customers with respect to quality, speed, throughput, and reusability; examples include development of lean processes, definition of new reports to provide project transparency, or implementation of new tools and ways of working to speed delivery
- Assists in definition of mandatory project controls and establishes the framework for monitoring compliance with controls
- Participates in establishing metrics and dashboards for monitoring project health and ensuring delivery within acceptable tolerances for budget, schedule, and value
Project Management
- Collaborates with stakeholders to:
- Assist in development of a business case for complex projects prior to approval
- Ensure business objectives and outcomes are clearly defined, documented, and understood
- Define the scope, risks, potential issues and resources for the project
- Ensure benefits can be realized and measured
- Manage the impact of the organizational change to the business and customers
- Applies appropriate project management methods and tools whether predictive(plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches.
- Prepares and executes realistic project plans (including quality, risk, communications, change management) to determine schedule, cost, equipment, and staffing requirements.
- Negotiates for necessary resources based on skills and capacity needs.
- Leads and directs a geographically dispersed, matrixed team of resources, assigning tasks, establishing deadlines, and monitoring progress of project activities.
- Provides leadership and strategic direction to the project team
- Manages costs, timelines, resource capacity, and takes affirmative action where these deviate from agreed project plan tolerances.
- Ensures effective and early identification, communication and escalation of project risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies; acts as an escalation point for the team and implements effective mitigation strategies by taking corrective action to achieve resolution project goals.
- Manages the project status reporting according to prescribed timelines for a given projects
- Works with all stakeholders to ensure established governance processes are adhered to
- Focuses on continuous improvement
- Develops business insights based on analysis of results and communicates key findings to various members of management to facilitate data-driven decision-making
Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification
- Bachelor's degree in project management, computer science, management information systems or equivalent
- Project Management (PMP) certification preferred
- Master's degree preferred
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum of 8 years managing complex projects
- Proficient in MS Project, Smartsheet or equivalent Project Planning tools
- Proficient in ADO, JIRA or similar development management tools
- Expert in project management methodologies such as PMBOK and/or Agile, stakeholder management and communications, scope management, risk identification, risk mitigation and contingency planning
- Experience in organizational change management associated with the successful launch of projects
- Proven experience managing and aligning multiple, interdependent work streams and projects
- Experience managing geographically dispersed teams
- Experience managing vendor-based teams
- Strong familiarity with change management and process improvement concepts
- Experience managing Mergers and Acquisitions projects preferred
- Experience with commercial software implementations as well as custom software development preferred
- Experience with networking, infrastructure, and data centers preferred
- Prior experience in oil and gas supply chain management preferred
