Position description

University of California Santa Barbara, Department of Theater and Dance seeks an accomplished theater artist developing and/or sustaining a national profile as a Costume Designer for a full-time, Assistant Teaching Professor position in design. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a strong team of faculty artists, scholars, and staff in a vibrant, interdisciplinary department offering BA's and BFA's in Theater and Dance and an MA/PhD in Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies.

The Costume Design teaching professor is responsible for designing several main stage theater and dance productions, mentoring and engaging student assistant designers, teaching formal costume design and costume construction courses, and contributing to the intellectual and artistic life of the university as well as contribute to the diversity of creative voices working on campus. The department's main stage season is composed of 5 plays and 3 dance concerts, along with 7-10 second stage events in multiple venues. For more information, visit http://www.theaterdance.ucsb.edu.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

M.F.A. in Costume Design or relevant degree, or 5 years equivalent professional experience in the specied eld.

Preferred qualifications

College or university-level teaching experience in Theater / Costume Design. Membership in United Scenic Artists Local 829. Regional / LORT Theater Experience.

Preference for candidates who have experience teaching courses that are innovative and have an ability to interest diverse populations of undergraduate students.
