Job Title: Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist University of Pittsburgh, School of Dental Medicine, Department of Diagnostic Sciences Position Type: Full-Time Faculty Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Job Summary: The University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as an Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. This position also carries the responsibility of serving as the Biopsy Service Lab Director. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in educating predoctoral and postdoctoral students while contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology. Key Responsibilities: 1. Teaching: Deliver high-quality didactic and clinical instruction to predoctoral dental students, postdoctoral residents, and other learners in the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology. Develop and implement innovative teaching methods to enhance the learning experience of students. Mentor and advise students on research projects, clinical case presentations, and academic pursuits. 2. Biopsy Service Lab Director: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Biopsy Service Lab, ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of biopsy specimens. Collaborate with laboratory staff to maintain the highest standards of quality control and compliance with regulatory requirements. Continuously improve laboratory protocols and procedures to enhance diagnostic accuracy. 3. Research: Engage in scholarly activities, including original research, publications, and presentations at national and international conferences. Pursue external research funding opportunities to support research initiatives in the department. Collaborate with colleagues and students on research projects related to oral and maxillofacial pathology. 4. Service: Participate in departmental and university committees and provide leadership within the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology. Serve as a resource for clinicians and colleagues in the interpretation of biopsy results and the diagnosis of oral diseases. Contribute to community outreach and engagement efforts related to oral health education and prevention. 5. Professional Development: Stay current with developments in the field of oral and maxillofacial pathology through continued education and participation in professional organizations. Foster a culture of academic and clinical excellence within the department. Required Qualifications: D.D.S. or D.M.D. degree from an accredited institution. Completion of an accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology residency program. Board certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology. Eligibility for a dental license in the state of Pennsylvania. Demonstrated teaching experience and a commitment to education. Strong diagnostic skills and clinical expertise in oral and maxillofacial pathology. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and diverse academic environment. Evidence of scholarly activity, including research publications and presentations. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in an academic setting, including teaching and mentoring students. Research expertise and a track record of securing research grants. Familiarity with modern laboratory techniques and technology in the field of oral pathology.
