Job Summary:

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering seeks to hire a faculty member with expertise in advanced semiconductor materials and devices (microelectronics or optoelectronics) for energy-efficient computing, control, power conversion, communications, lighting, or sensing applications. Device technologies of interest include transistors, light-emitting diodes, lasers, photodetectors and on-chip photonics, and photovoltaics that leverage new 3D architectures and new nanomaterials, some of which are considered exotic today (e.g., oxide semiconductors, 2D semiconductors, perovskites, diamond, etc.). The successful candidate will lead research innovations that address the extraordinary demands for intelligence and sensing embedded in nearly every aspect of daily life, and the urgent need for energy efficiency in the underlying electronics. Outstanding candidates at both the Assistant and Associate Professor rank will be considered.

The faculty member recruited through this search will be able to leverage and contribute to state-of-the-art MOCVD reactors within ECE as well as research core facilities within the Wisconsin Centers for Nanoscale Technology for nanoscale fabrication, imaging, and characterization.


Responsibilities:

Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and contributing to curriculum updates and innovations; mentoring graduate students and supervising their research; providing ongoing mentorship to first-generation and/or underrepresented students to help them achieve academic success; developing and directing a successful, extramurally funded research program; participating in departmental and university shared governance; and contributing to professional and public service.

The successful candidate will have an excellent academic record, a vision for an innovative, significant and impactful research program and the skills to implement it, a commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching, and evidence of the ability and commitment to mentor first-generation and/or underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students. Associate Professor candidates must possess experience and scholarly credentials that meet the tenure standards of the UW-Madison Physical Sciences Divisional Committee and the College of Engineering.
