SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:

The Data Management Intern will support IRC's Elizabeth Office in data management - including data entry, data quality assurance, and data analysis. This role will specifically assist in the tracking and documentation of grievances submitted by clients. This is an entry-level data management position.

Special note: The Spring 2025 internship will include 4-6 hours of data entry a week as a stop-gap measure to automating data processes.

This internship has both practical and theoretical learning goals. 70% of working hours will include assisting with data management tasks, particularly data entry and assuring data accuracy. 30% of working hours will be dedicated to a project developed by the intern in conjunction with the supervising Data Specialist.

The Data Management Intern may learn the details of data management across many teams in the IRC NJ office, including Resettlement, Intensive Case Management, Housing, Health and Wellness, Intake, Refugee Cash Assistance, Assistance for Families and Older Adults, Economic Empowerment, Adult Education, and Youth Education.

This role is remote and 15 hours a week. This position is unpaid. An applicant needs work authorization in the USA to qualify. (CPT and OPT are acceptable.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Data Management

* Data entry

* Monitor data systems

* Data analysis

Project

* Developed by the intern in coordination with Data Specialist

* Must include data analysis and reference humanitarian work

* Intern will complete supplementary educational materials on data philosophy and ethics

Client-Centered

* Center clients in data administration decisions

* Assist staff in serving clients better

* Willingness to think creatively and serve clients better

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1. Interns will learn the foundations of data management, including data system maintenance, data entry, and data analysis

2. Interns will develop an ability for self-guided work

3. Interns will reflect on the role of data in international humanitarian relief

4. Interns will learn the basics of data philosophy

5. Interns will reflect on the role of ethics in data management

REQUIREMENTS:

* Reliable

* Accuracy and consistency with work

* Moderate to advanced Microsoft Excel abilities

* Fluency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint

* Self-guided and self-motivated

* Willing to learn new software programs and data analysis tools

* If remote or hybrid, access to reliable internet, a computer, and video call technology (laptops can be provided to an intern only while in the office)

* If remote or hybrid, ability to download and install software to complete remote work

* If remote or hybrid, ability to attend meetings via video call during Eastern Standard Time (NYC time)

* Willing to learn about IRC history, philosophy, global work, and local efforts

* Willing to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies

RECOMMENDED (NOT REQUIRED):

* -Experience with Microsoft Teams

* -Experience with Microsoft Power BI

* -Experience with data analysis
