Position: Environmental Professional

S&ME is looking for a motivated and passionate Environmental Professional to join our Environmental team in Greensboro, NC. Are you ready to contribute your education and knowledge to meaningful projects? Join us at S&ME!

As an entry-level Environmental Engineer, you will work closely under the direction of a licensed engineer to gain extensive hands-on field experience for conducting delineation and remediation of various contaminants in soil, groundwater, and soil gas and environmental permitting on private and public project sites for various market sectors such as municipal, healthcare, education, commercial and/or industrial.

Your Day-to-Day:

This position will include a mix of both field and office work associated with conducting environmental site assessments, field investigations, and data collection for various civil and environmental projects.



  • Field work will include:

    • Observation and oversight of drilling soil borings and installation of monitor wells, identification of the soils encountered, observation of well construction and groundwater and soil gas sampling for chemical analysis as well as other testing and sampling may be required
    • Engage with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project transparency and provide regular progress updates.


  • Office tasks will include:

    • Preparation of data tables, graphical presentation of data, and comparison of soil and groundwater data to State regulatory standards
    • Assist in the preparation of environmental permits and reports for clients, including stormwater permitting, air permitting, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plans
    • Prepare draft reports and proposals for various sized projects, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy in assessments and documentation.





What You Bring:



  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology or related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience working on, or coursework related to environmental/engineering in some of the following practice areas:

    • environmental assessment methods
    • due diligence processes
    • regulatory permitting
    • environmental compliance


  • Good business and technical writing skills
  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, ability to collaborate, and integrity are qualities we seek in a candidate
  • Engineer in training (EIT) license or on track to obtain
