About the Job

This position provides reporting to senior management in both the department and corresponding divisions(s). The position is responsible for reporting, managing, and analyzing for several divisions in Pediatrics. This includes acting as the Pediatrics finance contact between the division and federal agencies and foundations. Varied situations require analysis using general precedents and procedures. The incumbent works independently and resolves most problems with little assistance from management.

Financial Analysis, oversight and management - 45%

  • Provide financial oversight, analysis and management of sponsored and non-sponsored data
  • Prepare financial reports and present data to faculty and/or management
  • Forecast budgets and expenses
  • Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures
  • Serve as effort coordinator within the department
  • Review and provide document approval within the department

Financial Reporting - 30%

  • Create consolidated financial statements
  • Report both standard and customized monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for management and principal investigators to meet goals and objectives
  • Provide information to help in the decision making process

Budget proposal development and management of federal and other grans and contracts - 20%

  • Develop budgets and narratives for funding proposals
  • Assist in the processing of documents to submit funding proposals
  • Monitor projects for adherences to sponsors' requirements
  • Work with funding agencies to resolve invoicing discrepancies

Gift management and external sales - 5%

  • Monitor donations and other funds deposited to the University of Minnesota Foundation funds
  • Track and report donations from all donors
Qualifications

All required qualifications must be documented on application materials

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS with four years of professional work experience, or a combination of related education and experience to equal eight years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in the following areas of finance:
    • Financial analysis
    • Creating and maintaining finance reports
    • Budgeting
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple ongoing projects
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels within an organization
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel)
  • Prior experience working directly with faculty in a university setting
  • Certified Approver responsibilities
  • Experience with federal granting agencies to include budgeting (pre and post award)
Pay and Benefits
