Office of Student and Career Advancement Services (OSCAS) Mission:

To recruit and retain a diverse student body by providing quality academic and career advising, developing committed alumni, and advancing leaders in the nursing profession who are lifelong learners.

Position Overview:

The Assistant Director of OSCAS/Undergraduate Programs Coordinator manages the student services for all BSN students. The BSN program is one program with two locations: the Twin Cities and Rochester.

This position directly advises prospective and current BSN students academically and procedurally to ensure program progression and satisfaction. Working closely with the Director of Pre-Licensure Programs and the Director of OSCAS, this position helps lead the strategy and implementation of programs for BSN students. The Assistant Director will supervise 2 advisors located in the Twin Cities and 1 advisor and 1 student engagement professional located in Rochester. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of OSCAS. Duties/Responsibilities:

40% Academic Advising and Program Management

  • Provide both one-on-one and team advising for a small caseload of students on program planning, course registration and petition processes.
  • Provide guidance and direction on all student issues, working closely with the Director of Student and Career Advancement Services, Director of Pre-Licensure Programs, nursing faculty, university departments and resources across campus.
  • Serve as liaison to students and faculty for resources in the school and within the university to promote student success.
  • Serve as a member of the School of Nursing's Undergraduate Admissions & Progression Committee by providing information and records pertaining to all BSN student-related topics and issues.
  • Maintain and track updated records, resources, policies and procedures (handbooks, web content, scholarship eligibility, etc.) for all admitted and enrolled BSN students.

25% Leadership and Supervision

  • Work with the Director of Student and Career Advancement Services and Director of Pre-Licensure Programs to enhance student support services provided to BSN students.
  • Provide oversight and accountability to complete support related projects for the BSN program related to admissions, recruitment, orientation and current student support in collaboration with the Director of Pre-Licensure Programs and the BSN Academic Advisors.
  • Supervise and support the professional growth and development of the three BSN Academic Advisors.
  • Partner with the Data Manager in the coordination, management and gathering of statistics for degree program students using PeopleSoft, MyU, NursingCAS and the School of Nursing databases.
  • Remain current on updates to the databases, systems and Graduate School policies and procedures for dissemination to prospective and enrolling student populations.
  • Work with the Director to create strategies and processes to ensure comprehensive student services are meeting the needs of current students.
  • Create and manage budgetary line items as it relates to the supervised program areas and communicate budgetary needs and reports to the Director as requested.
  • Guide and collaborate with all OSCAS staff members to ensure a team-oriented, student-centered programs and services are created and implemented.
  • Nurture partnerships and relationship that the School of Nursing has with the University of Minnesota Rochester in support of our BSN transfer students located in Rochester.
  • Travel to Rochester at least once per month to provide support and collaboration with Nursing students, staff, and faculty.

25% BSN Recruitment/Admissions/New Student Support

  • Work with the BSN Rochester located advisor and the Undergraduate Admissions team to create and manage all phases of recruitment and admissions for the BSN program.
  • Create the content and strategy for BSN transfer recruitment plans by working closely with the Director of Student and Career Advancement Services and the Office of Strategic Communication, and the BSN Transfer Success Advisor.
  • Create and implement recruitment events, both physically and virtually in collaboration with Rochester and Twin Cities School and University partners.
  • Assist the Director with all marketing and communication-related projects.
  • Review and work with strategic communication to update BSN related information on the School of Nursing website.

10% School of Nursing Outreach and Representation, and other duties as assigned

  • Assist in the management of planning of commencement and other school events.
  • Represent the School of Nursing on University and School Wide Committees as determined by the Director.
  • Other duties as assigned which may include teaching and or developing and delivering training.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS with at least 6 years of experience or a masters degree plus at least years of relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in college-level advising.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work effectively support a diverse student population.
  • Excellent counseling and mentoring skills.
  • Experience developing, organizing and coordinating student-related programs and events, for both current and prospective students.
  • Ability to display accountability and responsibility in determining priorities and implementing processes that will match the mission and values of the Office of Student and Career Advancement Services.

Demonstrated excellence in the following areas:

  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and database manipulation.
  • Demonstrated ability to disseminate detailed information using a high level of interpersonal skills to work with students, faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work independently as well as to work collaboratively with a team within a department, a School/College or in the larger university.
  • Ability to multi-task and display strong attention to detail and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and materials.
  • Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education or a related field.
  • Experience working in an academic environment with a particular focus on student services.
  • Familiarity with University of Minnesota policies and resources related to graduate education.
  • Experience working with Oracle databases and PeopleSoft student records systems.
  • Experience creating and interpreting policies/procedures and communicating these to various constituents.
  • Experience creating content and strategy for marketing and communication-related projects, specifically those for recruitment purposes.
  • Supervisory experience (can include student workers, part-time staff, or volunteers).
  • Admissions related experience
