ABOUT THE NEUROSCIENCE UNIT

On the Neuroscience unit, we provide specialized care for patients with complex neurological conditions, including hemorrhagic bleeds, ischemic strokes, neurosurgical cases (such as craniotomy and spinal procedures), and seizure disorders. This unit offers a unique focus on EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit) patients who stay for continuous EEG monitoring to evaluate and manage seizures. During this period, patients are closely monitored by EEG technicians and the Neurology team as they undergo seizure evaluation, helping to identify seizure types and origins for targeted treatment strategies. DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Coordinates and facilitates unit activities including Promptly answering call lights using positive guest relations skills and page-appropriate staff. Monitor visitors on the unit and alert staff to possible problems and security issues. Assist in the coordination of emergencies and codes. Demonstrate ability to organize workload and manage multiple tasks while maintaining an orderly desk routine. Maintain unit station and common areas in a neat and orderly manner. Educate and train new unit clerks, students, and other staff, related to unit clerk activities and responsibilities. Contribute to and support a positive learning environment. Function as the computer and office equipment resource or super user for the unit. Maintain appropriate medical records and other forms needed during computer downtime. As needed, deliver lab specimens, and deliver/pick up supplies from other departments. Maintain scheduling flexibility to meet unit needs.

Greets and directs patients, visitors, and employees with courtesy and respect, and addresses them professionally. Utilizes the principles of Patient Family Centered Care.

Maintain a neat, clean patient environment. Maintain unit supplies, restocking as needed.

Meets the standards for regulatory requirements for state and federal agencies.

Promote and achieve the satisfaction of internal customers. Effectively intercede with families and patients and resolve concerns if able, if not able consult with the RN providing care to the patient.

Provides administrative and clerical support for the assigned unit including transcribing and processing physician orders, including computer entry. Answer phones, direct calls and take messages for physicians, nurses, and staff. Function as the resource person and unit communicator such as knowing the location of staff, equipment, and supplies. Maintain inventory and par levels of unit forms and general office supplies. Coordinate paperwork for the unit, including admissions/discharge logs, census logs, patient medical records, and other unit-specific documentation. Maintain accurate and timely entry of information into the computerized bed-management system. Perform charge entry duties. Run and reconcile reports for management and supervisors. Collect patient and unit data as assigned.

Cost-effectively utilizes human and material resources.

May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
