Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage social media planning, strategy, integration, and implementation for the university:
    • Follow and keep up to date WGU's social media plan,
    • Collaborate with other departments to integrate social media efforts,
    • Develop content for social media, including articles, posts, and videos.
  • Develop ideas and strategies for PR and marketing stories and content:
    • Brainstorm and develop PR and social media campaign plans,
    • Create graphics and videos for social media content.
  • Write materials for social media and respond to online comments.
  • Agency and vendor management.
  • Social media tracking and reporting.
  • Support for promotional events, campaigns, and activities that support new student acquisition.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Strong knowledge of best practices for social media channels.
  • Ability to work effectively with all external audiences as well as WGU staff at all levels.
  • Outstanding writing skills and ability to write effectively for different audiences.
  • Understanding of and ability to develop relationships with media.
  • Work independently, conceptualize projects, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews, research, and editing.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communication, Marketing or related field.
  • 2+ years related experience in social media marketing and content creation, 2 years experience would include any internships as well or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office tools, knowledge and experience with social media tools such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Tagger, or others.
  • Located in commuting distance to Salt Lake City office location

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Some air travel is required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Pay Range: $60,300.00 - $90,500.00
