Assistant Director

Athletic Facilities

The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting in the planning and directing the use of all Canisius University's athletic facilities, including swimming pool, gymnasium, Demske Sport Complex, fitness center, etc. The incumbent ensures campus facilities constantly meet educational, physical and safety requirements. The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant AD for Facilities.

General Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Assist in coordinating the use of all athletic facilities, including scheduling, staffing, supervising and monitoring of daily operations.

    • Coordinate scheduling of all athletic indoor and outdoor athletic facilities utilizing R25Live for all Division I teams, Club Sports. Intramural Sports and visiting teams.
    • Direct the facilities change over and game day set up in an efficient and timely manner.


  • Assist in developing and implementing athletic facilities' policies and procedures.
  • Schedule, monitor, and maintain the University's van and shuttle system.
  • Ensure the rules and regulations of the University, policies and procedures of the department, and all safety regulations are known and observed by participants and spectators.
  • Examine all facilities equipment, provide maintenance and make recommendations on replacement of equipment.
  • Ensure college athletic facilities are administered with constant commitment to compliance with all institutional, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Communicate on a daily basis with key personnel about college athletic events and functions that may require duties outside the normal daily routine.
  • Hire, train and supervise staff, including graduate and undergraduate student workers.
  • Assist with building and field maintenance.
  • Assist with rental of all campus facilities during summer months. Serve as a liaison between the client and other college departments.
  • Assist with other projects as needed.


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • Excellent project management, time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Knowledge of electrical, lighting, sound equipment, safety, security, and personnel needs for events.
  • Ability to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and the ability to learn additional programs, to include the Canisius University BANNER system, R25Live and other programs.



Qualifications:



  • A bachelor's degree is required.
  • Experience in facility and operation management a preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid New York State driver's license with a positive driving record per the college's insurance provider
  • Experience working in higher education athletic facilities is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary: $20.00 per hour to $22.00 per hour

Please note that the compensation information is a good faith estimate of the base pay for this position. The selected candidate's actual base pay will be based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors including experience. Information about the total compensation package for this position will be provided during the interview process.

Benefits are available the first of the month after the full-time employee's date of hire and include - health, dental and vision insurance, life and long term disability insurance, and retirement plan enrollment is available to full-time employees with contribution from University after one year. Paid holidays, vacation, personal leave and sick leave. Tuition benefits are also available for full-time employees and their qualified dependents.
