Animal Care Transport The Division of Laboratory Animal Resources (DLAR), Animal Care Transport Technician, will:
The candidate will oversee DLAR vehicle inspection and preventative maintenance schedules, and will assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, when transporting animals and materials. The candidate will liaise with research staff and DLAR employees regarding transport activities, follow delivery schedules, receive equipment and supply deliveries at the loading dock, maintain equipment inventories in an electronic database system, stock supplies, organize and clean storage areas, and maintain organized records of activities. Sanitization duties may include decontaminating vehicles and facility support areas, processing soiled animal caging, preparing clean caging, and operating various types of cagewash equipment. The candidate will perform some administrative tasks such as documenting completed tasks, maintaining an accurate delivery schedule, and corresponding via email. Must have a valid PA driver's license, a clean driving record, be available to work evenings, weekends and holidays, be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and stand for extended periods of time, lift 50 pounds, and push/pull heavy equipment. Vaccinations and/or TB testing may be required. Job Summary Transports a variety of animals, supplies, and equipment across sites. Provides animal care in regards to all regulations, including animal waste and deceased animal disposal. Essential Functions Employee must: have sufficient physical dexterity and visual acuity, to safely operate large motor vehicles through narrow areas, and to operate tools and equipment; read and comprehend delivery schedules, Standard Operating Procedures, departmental policies, regulatory documents and signage; follow both written and oral directives; communicate information so others will understand; exchange accurate information verbally and in written formats; negotiate self and transport equipment, around obstacles, and within close quarters; demonstrate sufficient motor skill to manipulate caging and equipment, and to safely move animals; and must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time. Physical Effort The employee must be able to stand for extended periods; bend and lift repeatedly; lift 50 pounds, and push/pull heavy caging equipment.
