Job Purpose

This position will be responsible for supporting, defining, and implementing sales, marketing and growth strategies for new outside group sales (OGS) business models in USA. This activity will support Honda Trading's initiative to diversify our sales outside of Honda related business, while ensuring that Honda Trading America substantially increases market share and customer satisfaction in this new growth area.

The New Business Development Account Manager for the steel industry is responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new business opportunities to drive company growth within this specific sector. This role requires a proactive and strategic approach to sales, focusing on building relationships with potential clients, understanding their needs, and offering tailored steel solutions. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, results-driven, and possess excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a deep understanding of the automotive and steel industries.

Key Accountabilities

Establishing new business structure:

Work with Steel Mills to establish strong relationships and develop supply agreements for new OGS business for supply of material and pricing agreements. Obtain RFQs through part maker visits to understand potential customer needs, material grades and volume requirements. Establishing the structure for new pricing models, new customers.

Business and Relationship Development:

Work with existing and prospective customers to provide solutions, helping solve challenges, fill needs, and/or to build new OGS business streams. Provide creative solutions to customers to maximize efficient use of materials and inventory management.

Industry Research and Lead Generation:

Identify and research potential clients and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) through various channels (e.g., online research, networking, industry events). Attend Steel conferences and seminars to increase familiarity with steel industry and develop relationships with suppliers and potential customers.

Sales Strategy and Planning:

Support the development and execution of the strategic sales plan to achieve new business targets within the steel sector. Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations and product demonstrations specific to steel applications.

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Minimum Educational Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field.


Minimum Experience



  • 7+ years of experience in B2B sales, business development, or a related role within the automotive or steel industry.
  • Experience in the steel industry is required.


Other Job-Specific Skills



  • Knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes and steel applications.
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and driving business growth.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, conflict management and negotiation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • strong understanding of general business concepts
  • knowledge of cost accounting (profit/loss impact)
  • Project Management Skills
  • Travel is required at least 25% of time (local, domestic, and international)

Decisions Expected

  • Determination and / or creation of steel supply maker layout across mills.
  • Analysis of cost matrix in order to determine selling price matrix to ensure profitability and business feasibility.
  • Determining and establishing profit percentage to ensure risks are covered.
  • Understand and determine potential risk associated with new business.
