About this Position:

Developing and executing product and business planning & strategy in a world of rapid technological and social change requires a highly capable, highly knowledgeable, and highly engaged team. American Honda's Sustainability & Business Development (SBD) business unit (BU) is tasked with navigating the business and technology application path for Honda's future renewable energy, resource circulation and innovative business initiative products, services, and businesses. Based on the Triple Zero Concept (2050), we will realize a society in North America where all customers can enjoy freedom of mobility, worry-free of any environmental impact through the principles of a carbon free and circular economy.

The Circular Solutions division is focused on establishing new sources of revenue and profit through the pursuit of innovative new business opportunities including and beyond our core auto business, and through partnerships and alliances, we will foster entrepreneurial spirit and develop associates to prepare the company for the future.

The Resource Circularity Senior Business Planning Lead will be responsible and accountable for the Resource Circulation strategy planning. With knowledge and understanding of the existing and future regulations and policies pertaining to automotive vehicle recycling and sustainability, the individual will create actionable plans and recommendations to all aspects of Honda's operations such as future development, supply chain and corporate strategy. Adhering to Honda's global resource circulation goals and targets, lead, enable, and be accountable to meet or exceed resource circulation targets. Through communication across the enterprise, as well as the industry, identify opportunities business opportunities and proposition that meet company's financial, operational and sustainability metrics. This individual will be the main point of contact for all Resource Circulation strategy and targets for North America.

Maximizing the applicant's actual experience in creation and planning of recycling strategy at a direct organization or at a consulting firm, this individual will require practical business development mindset and understanding of environmental strategies & policies within the automotive business & product value chain, and technology & recycling with an eye to future advances that can be incorporated into Honda's value chain. With a strong, independent vision for the future of resource circulation in the US, this role will evaluate business viability and profitability, and create a vision and roadmap to propose the strategic resource circulation targets. In addition, this individual must have practical experience at organizations or academia with focus on global circular economy, especially relevant to EU regional activity.

Responsibilities include:



  • Lead Product Journey Planning:

    • Identify, create and propose direction for vehicle product journey focused on resource circulation, with consideration on achieving corporate sustainability goals and business goals.
    • Report to executive management to successfully obtain approvals of business development themes from executive management meeting fiscal year requirements.
    • Clarify business development theme strategies cross-functionally to multiple business development teams for simple, actionable implementation plans.
    • Set and pursue measurable plans, targets and KPI to clearly validate the business development themes.




  • Lead Research of regulations, policies and industry:

    • Be the subject matter expert on all information related to Resource Circulation related regulations, policies, including current standards, as well as future standards.
    • Identify and participate in industry organization to collect industry activities, as well as to collaborate with industry players to represent the best interest for Honda.




  • Lead strategic plan implementation & Team Management:

    • Regularly evaluate global and regional automotive environmental requirements and consistently develop plans to progress towards identified goals and strategy. Direct, mentor, motive and advise related business development project themes for critical thinking for implementation success.




  • Executive and Stakeholder Reporting:

    • Clearly & concisely, report, and proactively communicate status of business development and leads project evaluations to stakeholders including technology roadmaps, lessons learned and hypothesis updates. Analyze policies, trends, understands applicability and impact to Honda, summarizes and presents key learnings, and recommends next steps.





Who we are seeking:

Required Work Experience:



  • Proven track record of executive/senior leadership roles to drive business success
  • Minimum three of following experience:

    • 10+ years of business strategy planning of sustainability or recycling programs
    • experience as a consultant or in a strategic planning role related to circular economy academic programs, focused on EU region's activity
    • 10+ years of automotive supply chain or purchasing
    • 10+ years of regulatory or policy research
    • Honda or automotive industry specific knowledge across all product lines
    • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements and concepts of resource circularity
    • Knowledge of EV, environmental, sustainability and recycling industries





Required Education:



  • MBA from accredited university and/or program



Desired skills:



  • Executive/senior leadership skills to drive business success
  • Strong hands-on technical expertise and track record of successful projects
  • Strong industry knowledge of hardware, software and wireless communication technologies and their practical applications
  • Ability to think big picture and out of the box
  • Strong proficiency with MS office is required, especially PowerPoint and excel
  • Strong presenter and confident interacting with all levels of management
  • Excellent teamwork skills for both north American and global offices and associates
  • Driver's license required and ability to operate a diverse assortment of automobiles. Proficiency with manual transmission preferred but not required.
  • Function as a business owner/product owner/large project lead/or person-in-charge of business development project
