About this Position:

The Safety Senior Specialist (Industrial Hygienist) applies their scientific and practical knowledge of the Health & Safety field in order to innovate, design, and improve systems, processes, equipment, and tools in their assigned areas to improve the Health & Safety characteristics in alignment with daily operations, new model, business plan, and/or innovation to achieve or exceed targets and promote safety excellence. They routinely investigate associate concerns, provide proactive exposure monitoring, and recommend controls to mitigate exposure and protect associate health & safety

Responsibilities include:

Key Accountabilities

* Lead Department and Plant themes and complex improvement projects to significantly reduce risk factors in the work environment by conducting exposure studies according to the proactive industrial hygiene (IH) strategy and conducting IH activities in response to service requests submitted by local operations

* Proactively cycle P-D-C-A of A of industrial hygiene regional sampling strategy to control exposure to chemical and physical hazards and ensure continuous improvement and add all study data including data collection, lab reports, summary report, supporting documents, qualitative analyses for SEG development (if needed) for both service requests and planned projects into the IH module of the Compliance Data Management System (CDMS).

* Leverage industrial hygiene expertise to support Plants, Department Leaders, Project Leaders, production safety advocates and/or safety committees to achieve self-sustaining safety culture and high level of safety performance.

* Accurately interpret and apply the Honda Safety Management manual and exposure guidelines, including NA and HDMA policies and procedures. Participate in PDCA of policies and procedures based on technical expertise

* Perform and document complex health/safety compliance activity to include: exposure assessments, chemical protective clothing risk assessments, respirator selection, and laser and radiation safety evaluations

* Detailed presentation and reporting of health & safety activities and results including complex data analysis and trending

* Subject Matter Expert (SME) Lead and support workgroups for HDMA Region.

* Develop personal expertise and professional skills

Required Experience:

* 2-8 years of safety experience or equivalent Honda manufacturing experience based on education

Required Education:

* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or other ABET-certified safety and health program or equivalent related experience

Other job specific skills:

* Achievement of professional certification such as Advanced Safety Certificate, Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Safety Management Specialist.

* Interpersonal relationship skills

* Detailed understanding of major health and safety regulations (OSHA, NFPA, ANSI)

* Detailed understanding of injury/illness prevention strategies

* Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization

* Verbal and written communication skills

* Open to mentorship guidance for personal skill growth

* Experience using Microsoft Office products

* Strong planning and prioritization skills

* Advanced data analysis and problem-solving skills

* Complex understanding of business plan, budgeting and cost reporting.

* Expertise with root cause analysis and implementation of countermeasures

Additional Position Factors:

* Open office environment with ability to remote work at manager's discretion

* Manufacturing environment

* Compensated overtime, Capability for Earning Comp Time, holiday and weekend work possible (needs will vary)

* Occasional support of B and C shift operations (needs will vary)

* Up to 15% travel with overnight stay
