Position description

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, at the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is recruiting for one full-time faculty member in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank in Gastroenterology. Faculty in the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series are expected to engage in teaching, professional competence and activity, scholarly or creative activities, and University/public service.

EXPECTATIONS

The position will be primarily dedicated to providing outstanding general gastroenterology care and teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows. The position will be dedicated to providing outstanding patient care and education in the hospital setting. Responsibilities will include supervision of consultations and procedures by fellows, residents, and medical students on the inpatient GI Consultation Service; review and develop educational curriculum and activities in collaboration with the Fellowship Program Director; and improving the quality and efficiency of the inpatient clinical service. The position will require sharing in the GI Attending responsibility during which presence in the hospital will be required as well as participation in educational conferences. Time not assigned to the inpatient service will be spent performing procedures and consultations in the outpatient setting. Evening and weekend call will be shared equally with the other faculty in the division.

The GI Division currently includes 27 faculty and 4 nurse practitioners, who provide services at 5 clinics and 5 ambulatory endoscopy units, with ongoing expansion. Strengths of the division include robust programs in motility, IBD, advanced endoscopy and a new liver transplant program. Clinical research within the division is supported by the GI Clinical Research Unit which includes 8 research coordinators and staff supporting over 50 studies. The division has a long-standing history of providing outstanding patient care and medical education and recent expansion on the training program to include 12 GI Fellows and 1 Advanced Endoscopy Fellow.

UC Davis Health serves a 65,000-square-mile area that includes 33 counties and 6 million residents across Northern and Central California. The UC Davis Medical Center is a 600-plus bed hospital with a 6-room endoscopy suite. Further expansion of the Medical Center campus is ongoing including an innovation hub, Aggie Square, and the 14-story California Tower.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in clinical care and education. Candidates must have expertise in general gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures. Candidates must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.

This recruitment is conducted at the assistant/associate rank. The resulting hire will be at the assistant/associate rank, regardless of the proposed appointee's qualifications.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or D.O. or equivalent degree
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level
  • The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills and interest in Gastroenterology

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

  • Must be board certified or board eligible in Gastroenterology
  • Must have a medical licensure or be eligible for licensure in the state of California
  • Must have completed an ACGME accredited fellowship or equivalent experience

Preferred qualifications (other preferred, but not required, qualifications for the position)

Competence in ERCP is preferred but not required.
