The Opportunity

The Department of Economics, located in the College of Business at the University of Central Florida (UCF), invites applications for a 9-month professor who conducts research in any field of economics. This position will be on the main campus with an anticipated start date of August 8, 2025.

As a professional school in a major public research university, we are committed to research, teaching, and service as we prepare future leaders in business, government, and academia. The College of Business enjoys a national and international reputation for excellence in education. We offer undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. programs and are among the elite group of colleges accredited by the AACSB. Please click here for additional information about the college.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Economics or a closely related field at the time of application.

  • The selected candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching, research, and service commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of professor.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A publication record that demonstrates the ability to publish in the best general interest or field journals in economics.

  • The ability to reach and inspire heterogeneous students whose training varies substantially.

  • The ability, experience, and willingness to take a leadership role in the department in the not-too-distant future.

Furthermore, applicants who have demonstrated excellence in teaching as evidenced by departmental, college, university, or professional association recognition for contributions to teaching, and who exhibit the willingness to offer an economics course to the general student population in an effort to attract students to the college and show them the power and reach of the economic way of thinking, may be awarded the Kenneth White and James Xander Professorship in Economics. The professorship is endowed, open to any field in economics, and carries a three-course teaching load per academic year.

The White-Xander Professorship is the result of a generous gift from Professor R. Glenn Hubbard, who completed his undergraduate degree in economics at UCF. The gift honors two economics faculty who changed Professor Hubbard's academic trajectory by way of their ability to reach and inspire undergraduate students in the classroom. The holder of the White-Xander Professorship is expected to do the same.
