Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, supports the management of the clinical, personnel and financial operations of the Sterile Processing Department in compliance with the policies and procedures set forth by Denver Health. Collaborates with physicians/surgeons, anesthesiology, nurse managers, healthcare providers and administrative directors to establish, implement and maintain sterile processing services to the Operating Room and 86 Denver Health Departments. In collaboration with the Manager, will schedule staff, assign and review work and ensure all orientation and training standards are met. Manage initiatives for job redesign and process improvements. Directs day-to-day activities of the staff and oversees the departmental reporting systems. Supports manager with development of standard operating procedures for the department.

Essential Functions:

  • In partnership with the manager, oversee SPD operations with timely and accurate results.
    *Confirm and preserve all staff certifications, competencies and requirements
    *Ensure locations are in compliance with all regulations and requirements
    *Work with customers to ensure all needs are met
    *Perform and demonstrate all aspects of Sterile Processing as needed
    *Collaborate with customers to build technique, efficiency and flow
    *Identify opportunities for improvement
    *Review best practices and benchmarking

    *Model Standards of Behavior and Strategic Plan
    *Use Lean Management Tools and look for ways to improve patient experience
    *Participate in Leadership classes
    *Actively participate in decision making, problem resolution, and process improvement (40%)

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Work Experience:

  • If Bachelors degree, three to five years supervisory experience in a healthcare setting required
  • If no Bachelors degree, 7 years of supervisory experience in a healthcare setting required

Licenses:

  • CSPT - Certified Sterile Processing Tech (CBSPD - Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution) required OR
  • HSPA - Technician (Healthcare Sterile Processing Certification) required

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of sterilization techniques, processing, wrapping and instrumentation
    • Knowledge of instrumentation and capital asset management
    • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance requirements
    • Ability to generate and analyze quality improvement reports
    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other internal and external team members to ensure timelines and quality are met
    • Ability to problem solve, manage competing priorities, and resolve issues
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
