Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the preparation, transportation and delivery of materials and supplies to patient care areas in the University Health Care system.

The duties of this position are performed in a health care environment that operates 24/7 and the work must be performed within health care specific requirements. Compliance includes but is not limited to all hospital specific life safety codes, infection control standards to protect immunosuppressed patients, compliance with all Joint Commission and CMS regulatory requirements, adherence to hospital guidelines to ensure patient satisfaction, and the flexibility to meet the business needs of the hospital when coverage is needed. This would include coverage in other positions within the department and on other shifts if needed to ensure core business needs are met.

Detailed Description:

Replenish PAR areas by stocking items that have been ordered.

Perform inventories at all PAR replenishment sites by manually counting products, or by hand held computer for disposable and non-disposable items, including sterile processing items,

Demonstrate proactive problem solving communications with all customers; anticipating their needs and following through to completion regarding supply issues and concerns.

Prepare outgoing shipments by filling, stacking, wrapping and loading orders.

Deliver compression gas and liquid nitrogen tanks using a tank carrier cart, utilizing safety procedures.

Operate a forklift, carrier carts and drive cars, vans and trucks up to 30 ft in length in order to load and deliver supplies.

Monitor out-of-stocks by utilizing all resources to make sure customer has needed product and communicate with areas needing supplies. Adhere to department's inventory schedules.

Perform cycle counts and inventory counts of supplies, rotate stock and check for out-of-date stock.

Pickup or deliver supplies and materials to off-site clinics areas.

Perform general inspection, provides preventative maintenance and ensures cleanliness of vehicles, forklifts and equipment.

Prepare chargeable items for distribution by placing charge stickers on supplies. Fill out appropriate forms for credit, charges and other productivity information.

Retrieve and deliver radiology film, CT files, and medical records throughout the University HealthCare System.

Pick up and deliver time sensitive specimens and reprocessed items.

Receive shipments and check outgoing and incoming supplies and packages to and from vendors. Perform quality check on all incoming shipments by verifying PO's match order to shipment received. Resolve incorrect orders. Deliver shipments to appropriate destinations after check for accuracy.

Review usage data and daily trends to ensure adequate levels of supplies are maintained.

Complete routine computer functions, filing and other clerical duties as necessary by processing department reports, answering phones and assisting customers and vendors.

Maintain supply area and storage area in a clean and orderly manner; paying close attention to safety regulations and preventive maintenance activities. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of all storage areas by sweeping, mopping and dusting.

Assist with moving of office furniture, equipment, medical records, supplies and other items that may need to be moved..

Transport patients and equipment as needed by assisting patients in and out of stretchers, beds, wheelchairs, etc., and taking patients/equipment to their destination following established procedures to ensure patient and personal safety.

Assist with morgue transports as needed following established procedures.

Provide excellent customer service at all times.

Perform related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Supervision is received from the Assistant Manager or Supervisor, Distribution Services. Functional supervision is received from the Coordinator, Distribution Services.

Required Qualifications:

High school graduate, the equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired is necessary.

Previous experience with the preparation, inventory, and/or the delivery of materials and supplies is required.

Experience working in a customer service area where excellent communication skills are utilized is strongly preferred.

Possession of a 'Class E" Commercial Driver's License is required.

Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds is required.

Physical demands of this position require individuals to be able to stand, walk, lift, push, pull and move heavy objects.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
