Job Summary
Under the direction of the Shard Services Organization (SSO) Payroll Supervisor, support SSO clients and maintain data integrity in areas related to payroll administration and entry of personnel related transactions including (but not limited to) new hire transactions, employee separations, job data and salary updates, time management and entry, leave balance reconciliation, student work study, final pay and off cycle payments. Research and resolve key issues related to payroll and personnel transactions. This position is responsible for providing excellent customer service by maintaining productivity for a large client base, driven by payroll processing and hiring deadlines, in a fast-paced environment. - Experience processing transactions in automated payroll/personnel and timekeeping in an environment governed by collective bargaining agreements.
- Experience with payroll, personnel, record keeping and accounting.
- Experience using software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and other computer programs to produce general correspondence, forms, reports, spreadsheets, presentations
- Skill to work with frequent interruptions, competing deadlines, and handle high transaction volume especially during peak periods. Skill to analyze situations, define problems and/or objectives, identify relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions and suggest alternative solutions.
- Customer service skills to exercise diplomacy and empathy in dealing with others and to resolve potential problems and discrepancies.
- Communication skills to interpret, understand and follow verbal and written instructions and to respond appropriately. Skill to interact and communicate effectively in person and over the phone with a diverse population.
- Arithmetic skills to perform complex calculations pertaining to payroll transactions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with the University's personnel policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Knowledge of the University's personnel policies, procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
- Skill to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Skill to maintain confidentiality of personnel or other sensitive issues/matters and exercise independent judgment and discretion in dealing with controversial or potentially sensitive topics.

Department Overview The Shared Services Organization (SSO) provides administrative support functions for both UC Davis and UC Davis Health in Human Resources, Leaves of Absence, Records, and Payroll administration. The SSO is one of four Service Delivery Channels providing support to campus employees (~22,000) and departments (~450).
