Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Animal Care and Laboratory Technician to join our research team, which focuses on major Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation (VCA) surgeries in small and large animal models. The successful candidate will be responsible for the comprehensive care of animals pre and post-surgery, ensuring their well-being, monitoring health status, and conducting laboratory analyses. This role requires weekend and after-hours availability to provide continuous care and monitoring of animals during critical post-surgical recovery periods. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide post-surgical care to animals, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and conducting routine health assessments.
- Perform blood sampling and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
- Analyze samples using techniques such as Complete Blood Count (CBC), flow cytometry, ELISAs, and various molecular biology methods.
- Communicate and coordinate with veterinary staff when necessary, ensuring prompt response to any animal health concerns.
- Report regularly to the project supervisor, providing updates on the status and progress of animals under care.
- Maintain detailed records of animal health, treatments, and laboratory results.
- Conduct rodent-specific procedures such as handling, restraint, and administering injections with precision and care.
- Perform rat perfusion when required.
- Ensure compliance with institutional guidelines and ethical standards for animal care and use.

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications: Entry Level
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, veterinary science, or related field
Intermediate Level
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, veterinary science, or related field
- One (1) year professional level research experience
Senior Level
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, veterinary science, or related field
- Two (2) years' professional level research experience
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology, veterinary sciences, or a related field.
- One (1) to three (3) years prior experience or background within a research laboratory
- Prior experience with animal models in a surgical research setting.
- Experience in animal care, particularly in post-surgical recovery settings.
- Experience conducting rodent-specific procedures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and after-hours, as necessary.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to report and liaise effectively with both veterinary and research teams.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as Entry: $45,000-$57,240 Intermediate: $48,970-$62,290 Senior: $52,941-$67,341 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
