At Northwestern Mutual, electronic document management is an essentialcapabilityfor the organization and ourdigital platformstrategy.Our team isintegraltothecustomer,advisor, and home office user experiences by primarily focusing on delivering on our highly available, sophisticated digital document management platform. This allows both internal and external users to search, view, download, and upload documents at any time of day. This Manager will be overseeing the growth of the team responsibility adopting further core-platform functionality of the enterprise digital platform portfolio.

Our team is looking for aSoftware Engineering Managertoleada small teamwhilepartnering withProduct, Design,Test Engineering,and othersto deliver positive client experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive success through our teams by leveraging our people's strengths,makingdecisionsbased on data,identifyingopportunities,and apply continuous learningdaily.

  • Expected tooperate as a "team player/coach."

  • You'll need to learn our code, systems, processes, and operations by functioning as an individual contributor on some tasks so that you can help other team members excel.

  • Understand key needs and opportunities and then propose solutions and systems to drive change.

  • Steepen the growth trajectory of each engineerthrough mentoring and providing personal feedback on regular basis.

  • Write detailed design documents and integrate feedback into said documents;likewise provide feedback for others.

  • Writesecure,high-qualitycode and integrate code-review feedback into saidcode.

  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspectiveand innovateson existing solutions.

  • Deploy systems that are resilient, robust, and monitored.

  • Coordinate with other leads to align approaches for consistency.

  • Interview, hire, and onboardcandidatesas needed.

  • On-call, evening and weekend work required as needed.

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of people leadership experience of a technical team.

  • 6+ years writing software as an individual contributorin Java / NodeJS.

  • 3+ years production support responsibilities.

  • Working knowledge of the Spring Framework and Junit .

  • AWS experience required .

  • Experience building high-qualityteams and systems.

  • Advocating and practicing lean leadership while driving to success.

  • Experienced with strong psychological safety of a high output team.

  • Experiencebuilding/operating reliable, concurrent always-on data processing systems.

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services - S3, SQS,DynamoDBpreferred.

  • Working knowledge developing cloud based,dockerizedapplications and microservices.

  • Working knowledge offront-endcomponents and frameworks such as React and Node.

  • Experience writing and debugging multithreaded Java applications.

  • Experience withGithubfor source code management.

  • DevOps experience is a plus.

An ideal candidate would have:

  • Strong written and verbal communicator who errs on the side of over communication.

  • Strong sense of responsibility with a bias towards action.

  • Comfortable self-directing and prioritizing your own work.

  • Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision, yet actively interact with other team members in person or over the Internet (chat, videoconference, email)

  • Fast learner and self-starter. The people you will work with are incredibly kind and extremely willing to share knowledge and a helping hand, but youmustbe willing to take ownership of the outlined goals and make things happen.

  • Work collaboratively on creative solutions with engineers, product managers and designers in an agile like environment.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$121,030.00

Pay Range - End:

$224,770.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
