Job Description
ECU Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness ( CRW) is seeking Aquatic Lifeguards .
Join our dedicated team at Campus Recreation and Wellness ( CRW) as an Aquatic Lifeguard/Swim Instructor! These roles offer flexible hours and the chance to gain valuable experience in supporting and managing aquatic programs and facilities. You will play a vital part in promoting the well-being of the campus community. CRW is committed to creating an environment of belonging and well-being and supports the Division of Student Affairs' commitment to purposeful well-being.
Lifeguard Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and security of all patrons in the aquatic facility
  • Monitor activities in and around the pool to prevent accidents
  • Enforce all facility rules and regulations
  • Respond quickly to emergencies and perform lifesaving techniques, including first aid and CPR
  • Conduct regular safety checks of pool equipment and facilities
  • Assist with pool maintenance and cleaning tasks
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons
  • Complete incident and accident reports as needed
  • Participate in regular training and in-service sessions to maintain skills and certifications


Swim Instructor Responsibilities:

  • Teach swim lessons to individuals of all ages and skill levels
  • Develop and implement lesson plans
  • Provide feedback and encouragement to help participants improve their swimming skills
  • Ensure the safety of all participants during swim lessons
  • Communicate effectively with participants and their guardians
  • Maintain records of participants' progress
  • Assist with swim program promotion and registration
  • Provide excellent customer service and build positive relationships with participants

Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
Qualifications:

  • Must be a current ECU student in good academic standing
  • Valid Lifeguard Certification (including CPR, First Aid, and AED)
  • Experience in life-guarding and/or swim instruction preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Flexible work availability, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and ECU sanctioned breaks
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team for a minimum of 8-12 hours per week
