Position Title Life Science Educator (Part-Time)
Department Education (YI) - 052
Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Education department's Youth Initiatives (YI) group is seeking a part-time Life Science Educator to teach out-of-school programs for 6th-12th grade students in the form of camps, institutes and after-school courses. Additionally, the Educator will revise and develop curricula for those programs as needed.

The YI group, a division of the Museum's Education department, is dedicated to STEM workforce development and science enrichment for youth ages 10 to 24. In YI, we aspire to be a hub and model for youth science learning and engagement that responds to institutional and societal discrimination that prevents full participation in science by all young people. We are looking for candidates committed to this vision in working with the YI team to build a more just and equitable community of STEM learners and leaders.

Candidates must be committed to working towards this mission and open to learning and implementing equitable and inclusive pedagogical practices that elevate all learners.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teaching YI programs (e.g., Science Research Mentoring Program, Lang Science Program, Science Alliance, high school workshops).
  • Revising/designing life science curriculum as needed through the year for the various program departments.
  • Participating in professional learning by observing classes, participating in education professional development (like attending special exhibits), DEI sessions and/or co-teaching with more senior educators.
