The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences is seeking a full-time faculty member, appointment-stream, as a Research Assistant Professor. The candidate will work in the Rohan Pharmaceutics Laboratory located at Magee-Womens Research Institute (MWRI), which is one of the largest institutes dedicated to reproductive biology and women's health. Research at the Institute centers on embryonic, fetal, and placental development, pregnancy, microbiology, infectious disease, gonadal biology, female and male fertility, gynecology, pelvic floor health, female cancer, health services, and wellness. Intense translational and clinical research bridges basic discoveries with mechanistic, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications. The Pharmaceutics Laboratory at MWRI focuses on drug product development and seeks to transform global health through pharmaceutical innovation. MWRI spans 125,000 sq ft of laboratories, core facilities, and animal research units. MWRI is committed to providing outstanding training and research experience in reproductive biology and development and is proud to support the advancement of graduate students and Postdoctoral fellows in the Health Sciences Schools of the University of Pittsburgh.

  • Qualified applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field
  • Expertise in the area of drug product development, ADME, DMPK, PK, and PBPK modeling is required
  • Five years or more of relevant work experience in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Demonstrate independent ability to design and execute experiments, data collection, analyze & interpret results, and present research findings in a professional scientific manner
  • Experience in scientific writing (manuscripts and grant proposals)
  • Experience with pharmaceutical product development including regulatory aspects
  • Demonstrate excellent record-keeping of research work

The incumbent will be an active member of the leadership team within the Rohan lab and will work on multiple research projects. They will assist with decision-making regarding project execution, research directions, and laboratory growth. They will participate in grant writing, budgeting, and project oversight activities, and will assist with mentoring of trainees in the lab. Management of multiple research projects to ensure successful and timely completion of the project milestones will be required. They will conduct drug-drug interactions studies including in vitro CYP and UGT inhibition, CYP induction profiling using primary hepatocytes, microsomal metabolic stability, reaction phenotyping using recombinant CYPs and UGTs, solubility, protein binding, blood/plasma partitioning, RNA isolation, mRNA to CDNA conversion and RT-qPCR experiments. Conduct in vitro bidirectional permeability studies using Caco2 cells. Conduct ex vivo permeability studies in excised human tissues. Perform histology and IHC studies. Participate in pharmacokinetic modeling activities across projects in the laboratory. The individual will also work with collaborators and funders across multiple institutions.
