TITLE

Assistant Gymnastics Coach I

JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Gymnastics Coach I is responsible for assisting the Head Gymnastics Coach with developing and administering a highly competitive gymnastics program. The Assistant Gymnastics Coach I will abide by University, USA Gymnastics and NCAA rules and regulations; and along with all other athletics personnel, will work towards achieving the objectives of Intercollegiate Athletics. Work is performed under general supervision and performance evaluation is based upon completion of assignments and results obtained. The performance evaluation is conducted through the performance evaluation system and in accordance with the University Policies & Procedures.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Head Gymnastics Coach

Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - May include, but not limited to the following:



  1. Assists the head coach in managing and directing the gymnastics program.
  2. Be responsible for daily practice planning and oversight of workouts on events as assigned by the Head Coach.
  3. Performs regular safety checks on all practice and competition equipment, and maintain and update equipment as needed.
  4. Assists in planning of team travel, officials' travel, competition scheduling, JAS paperwork, and other required departmental and NCAA paperwork.
  5. Serves as a contact for prospective student-athletes and their coaches throughout the recruiting process including but not limited to phone calls, in-gym evaluations, recruiting at DP competitions, and planning/coordinating on-campus visits.
  6. Facilitates student-athletes academic meetings, distributes and collections grade checks each semester.
  7. Assists in the planning and execution of fundraising and alumni relations activities.
  8. Commits to and is responsible for adhering to all rules and regulations set forth for the team, the University, USA Gymnastics and the NCAA with the utmost integrity.
  9. Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletics department, attend department meetings and activities, and always represents the University positively when interacting with the community, alumni, high school and club coaches, media and general public.
  10. Completes other assigned administrative duties in a timely manner.



  • Assists with coordinating facility needs of visiting teams.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES



  • Attend seminars, conferences and other professional development opportunities.
  • Implements Intercollegiate Athletics' strategic plan as part of the Division of Student Life's strategic plan.
  • Perform other duties as requested.


EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree required.

EXPERIENCE

Two years minimum of NCAA collegiate gymnastics experience and/or experience in a highly competitive club system with Elite and/or advanced Level 10 gymnastics.

REQUIREMENT

Valid Texas driver's license and a safe driving record such as required by the university for Driver's Authorization

Regular and reliable attendance at the University during regular scheduled days and work hours is an essential function of this position.

Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use is preferred at the time of hire, and will be required prior to participation in any countable athletically related activities as defined by the NCAA.

  1. Ability to spot on all events preferred.
  2. Knowledge of gymnastics equipment ordering, set-up and maintenance.
  3. Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
  4. Ability to safely teach skill progression.
  5. Ability to adhere to all policies, rules and regulations of the University, USA Gymnastics and the NCAA.
  6. A proven record in following directives and being responsible for tasks which have been assigned.
  7. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  8. Ability to attend seminars, meetings and other professional development opportunities at or away from TWU.
  9. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities.
  10. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes.
  11. Knowledge of management methods and ability to provide administrative guidance within area of responsibility and provide direct training and supervision as needed.
  12. Ability to apply budgeting and fiscal planning techniques within financial constraints.
  13. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  14. Ability to communicate effectively - orally, by phone, in person, and in writing.
  15. Ability to respond to emergency situations in a timely manner.
  16. Ability to operate essential office equipment that is necessary to perform the functions of this job.
  17. Ability to represent the department and University in a friendly, courteous and professional manner.



  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment, including university software and email.
