Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

POSITION SUMMARY
This 9-month tenure-track faculty position reports to the Aviation Maintenance Program Coordinator and the Dean of Technical Education. This individual will teach General Aviation, Airframe, and Power Plant courses in the Aviation Maintenance Technology program. Applicants chosen for interviews must present a brief teaching simulation before the search committee.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is a full-time teaching position, and this individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

TEACHING, ADVISING, and RECRUITMENT:

  • Prepare lesson plans, assignments/exams, syllabi, and course materials for any assigned courses within the aviation maintenance program in compliance with FAA Part 147 approved curriculum. This includes General Aviation, Airframe, and Power Plant courses.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and professional environment for learning.
  • Ensure lab and hangar safety of all students and staff in compliance with OSHA.
  • Advise students throughout their degree plan.
  • Participate in recruitment events on campus and in the community.
  • Maintain a gradebook and input mid-term and final semester grades.
  • Assist with semester-to-semester course schedules.
  • Prepare students for a career in Aviation Maintenance Technology.
  • Prepare students to pass industry certification exams.
  • Record grades and attendance in preparation for certificate audits.

LAB and EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE:
  • Maintain and repair equipment, tools, and labs as needed under the guidance of the Dean of Technical Education and/or the Aviation Maintenance Program Coordinator. This includes complying with OSHA and addressing any safety findings in a timely manner.

INSTITUTIONAL COMMITMENT:
  • Participate on various college committees, attend school and campus meetings, and attend graduation.
  • Maintain office hours.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification.
  • Three years of industry field experience.
  • Per FAA guidelines, the incumbent must pass an initial drug test and participate in randomization testing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in aviation maintenance or related field.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in an aviation-related field or education.
  • Teaching experience.

Working Conditions

Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines. Work is done both indoors and outdoors, in hot and cold temperature environments, and requires lifting up to 80 pounds and carrying objects of up to 50 pounds. Work performed indoors is performed in a non-smoking facility.
