POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Manager's primary responsibility will be to drive performance in the manufacturing process through continuous improvement to deliver and sustain profitable growth. This position will also be responsible for assisting the Operations Manager in the development of the plant's strategy. This position is also responsible for the Food Safety and Food Quality programs. In the event that this position is not on-site, the operations manager will be responsible for the Food Safety and Food Quality program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage the daily operations according to established production schedules, work assignments, employee safety, and administration of company policies and procedures.
  • Coach direct reports and supervisors to help cultivate culture.
  • Manage line efficiencies. Work with the production manager, maintenance manager, and supervisors on key opportunities for line efficiency improvement by providing trend analysis on key downtime issues and equipment. Facilitate a plan to reduce downtime in the operation by holding team members accountable for results and providing coaching to help resolve root causes versus symptoms.
  • Deliver enhanced supply efficiency and capability by ensuring reliable maintenance and production through analysis of current performance to standards and settings of stretch goals.
  • Develop hourly and salaried employees within the production and maintenance departments by setting performance expectations in goals and behaviors (coaching and mentoring) that support the overall supply chain mandate - reliable supply.
  • Evaluate performance against goals across a balanced scorecard, coordinating functional department efforts to improve the same.
  • Analyze financial results to determine successes and gaps, developing strategies to close gaps and enhance cost delivery.
  • Will lead various projects; Act as the liaison between Lean improvement personnel and their respective groups.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of operational initiatives in support of Lean Six Sigma manufacturing (e.g., department utilization improvement, process capability enhancement, customer satisfaction, employee involvement).
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
  • Set and communicate standards, deploy resources, and achieve clear and measurable performance expectations for the operation.
  • Develop the personnel in the department, direct work assignments, evaluate employee performance, and conduct employee discipline in a manner that is consistent with Company, policies and procedures.
  • Communicate, implement, and assure compliance with governmental rules and regulations, as well as, Company plans, programs, policies, and procedures involved with the conduct of a safe, clean, environmentally sound, and efficient operation.
  • Train new employees that are hired in the work area assigned

  • Be accessible for employees to ask questions regarding their area of expertise
  • Provide positive recognition to employees who exhibit good behavior in their work area
  • Provide feedback to managers on individual and team performance
  • This role will be required to taste test products as needed, up to a couple of ounces per test
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (If applicable)

  • Manage multiple direct reports; the Production Supervisors.
  • Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback, coaching, counseling, and disciplining; conduct training; implement enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; and reviewing professional publications.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Communicates job expectations; planning, monitoring, and assessing job results; coaching, and counseling employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Establishes strategic goals; identifying and evaluating trends; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.
  • Lead and support a food safety and food quality culture within the location
  • Establish, document, and communicate to all relevant staff of food safety and quality objectives and performance measure
  • Empower and encourage employees to act to resolve food safety and quality issues within their scope of work
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the food safety and quality culture within the location
  • Effectively communicate all key performance indicators and objectives to employees
  • Ensure staffing and adequate resources are maintained to meet objectives
  • Educate all staff to understand the importance of food safety and food quality controls and deviation consequences.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Management with a minimum of five years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the food/beverage industry
  • Two plus years' experience in a Production Manager Role
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Must have excellent time management skills
  • Ability to direct, coach and train others.
  • Consultative, influential, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to respond to off hour emergencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a typical office setting; driving a motor vehicle and occasionally working in the field.

FREQUENT: sitting, upward and downward flexion of neck; fine finger dexterity and light to moderate finger pressure to include extended periods of keyboard and mouse use, side-to-side turning of neck, walking, standing, bending and stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, moderate wrist torque to twist equipment knobs and dials.

OCCASIONAL: squatting, kneeling, reach above and at shoulder height, moderate grasp to manipulate reference books and manuals; lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds from below waist to above shoulders and transporting distances up to 50 feet.

VISION: Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction.

HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
