3rd shift - Operator, Waste Water (8pm-4am)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Waste Water Operator reports to the Maintenance Manager and is based out of our Seabrook, New Jersey location. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the proper health of anaerobic digestors, the proper function of pumps, agitators chlorinators, DAF equipment, and other wastewater treatment equipment are functioning properly. The Operator will monitor equipment for potential failures and may make minor repairs or adjustments as needed. This individual will also collect water and Sludge samples for analysis. The operator is also responsible for taking VFA and COD readings throughout their shift while maintaining good EQ Tank Levels and optimizing Effluent Discharge.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (essential functions of the job)

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring Influent Flow and optimizing Effuent Flow Frequent VFA, COD, PH, and Brix testing. Increasing or Decreasing Effluent Flow to maintain proper Anaerobic Digester Health Populating Spreadsheet and emailing out to senior leadership team of daily VFA's, COD's, Effluent GPM, EQ Tank Levels, and Influent levels. Filling Frac Tanks from EQ Tank and draining Frac tanks back into EQ Tank as needed. Maintain acceptable cleaning of the WWTP. Use the clean-as-you-go method to maintain order and cleanliness
  • Update the Log Book throughout the shift of WWTP operations. Work closely with Boiler House Operators to Monitor chemical usage as it relates to costs and area budget
  • Recommend usage of different chemicals to the Maintenance Manager for cost-effectiveness
  • Clean digester's while adhering to workplace safety standards and using proper PPEMaintain torch temp and ensure methane is burned off properly. Maintain safe work area by keeping the areas free of hazards, proper handling of chemicals, storage of chemicals and parts
  • Monitor hazardous conditions in the WWTP and communicate findings to the Maintenance Manager
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Forklift certification
  • Years of experience needed
  • Licenses needed

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the food/beverage industry
  • Prior experience using industrial-grade chemicals, CIPs, and basic housekeeping background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to track and record daily operations on both paper and Excel spreadsheets

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a WWTP Operations setting.

FREQUENT: Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 50 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in the area of responsibility. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).

OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask, and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program. Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.

VISION: Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction. Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high-speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.

HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines, and exhaust fans.
