POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for leading, motivating, and developing the maintenance team to meet equipment repair and preventative maintenance goals. This individual will create consistent standard approaches and achieve production results while improving individual skills, enhancing teamwork, and minimize losses. This role reports to the Maintenance Manager and is based out of our Sparta, MI location.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Maintains, implements, and makes continuous improvement suggestions on the company and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintains all production, supporting and building equipment is satisfactory condition. Schedules needed repair to have minimum interference with production uptime.
  • Develop and administer the preventive maintenance program and maintenance of production equipment and facilities.
  • Organizes and oversees the day-to-day operations of the maintenance staff.
  • Communicate with safety, quality, production, logistics and warehouse and provides support.
  • Consult with Engineering staff, Plant Manager, and the Production Department regarding desirable modifications of existing equipment and facilities and the possible replacement of existing equipment which will improve operations and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Develop objectives and standards of performance for projects within the Maintenance Department required to meet departmental, divisional, and corporate goals and objectives.
  • Manages maintenance work order program to include, assignment, work order completion, schedule, and balance department cost. Serves as a backup for maintenance staff and ability to perform and audit equipment's preventable maintenance program.
  • Be able to make appropriate decisions that maintain the efficiency of the equipment and support department spending costs.
  • Assist with departmental budget to estimate and costs of repair per equipment. And assist with parts inventory and ordering with the Maintenance Planner.
  • Train's maintenance department staff. Readily identify the strengths and weaknesses of each team member and inspire them to do their best work in an effective manner meeting or exceeding goals and objectives.
  • Support and lead staff in a professional manner to include yearly evaluations, attendance, vacations, and all disciplinary reviews.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage 6 employees
  • Lead and exemplify an adherence and emphasis on employee safety with a thorough understanding of LOTO procedures and ensuring strict adherence to safety policies.
  • Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees; maintaining a safe, secure, and legal work environment; developing personal growth opportunities.
  • Communicates job expectations; planning, monitoring, and assessing job results; coaching, and counseling employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Establishes strategic goals; identifying and evaluating trends; choosing a course of action; defining objectives; evaluating outcomes.
  • Lead and support a food safety and food quality culture within the location
  • Establish, document, and communicate to all relevant staff of food safety and quality objectives and performance measure
  • Empower and encourage employees to act to resolve food safety and quality issues within their scope of work
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve the food safety and quality culture within the location
  • Effectively communicate all key performance indicators and objectives to employees
  • Ensure staffing and adequate resources are maintained to meet objectives
  • Educate all staff to understand the importance of food safety and food quality controls and deviation consequences.
  • Accountable for food safety, food quality and regulatory requirements for their position
  • Encouraged to notify management about actual or potential food safety issues
  • Adopt and maintain all SQF requirements for their position
  • Empowerment to work with supervision to resolve food safety and food quality issues within their scope of work

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or higher
  • Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience with various roles and progressive responsibility
  • Minimum 3 years of direct supervisory/leadership experience (influencing, coaching, managing through others, developing diverse work teams)
  • Demonstrated ability and understanding of both mechanical and electrical systems to include understanding of PLCs and basics programming
  • Demonstrated experience and proven track record in continuous improvement and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated experience in building relationships with internal customers
  • Strong team builder and team player (player/coach principle)
  • Must be able to communicate effectively written, verbal and in presentation with all levels of the business
  • Familiar with Maintenance Reliability and Continuous Improvement tools/techniques
  • Familiar with CMMS software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to travel 5%. Ability to work varied hours, including weekends and evenings. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detailed oriented and can multi-task
  • Must have excellent time management skills

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Lean, 6 Sigma, or other Quality Management Skills
  • Basic Level one understanding of Vibration, Infrared, MLT, Ultrasonic, and Motor Circuit evaluation.
  • Experience in report writing
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be detailed oriented and have the ability to multi-task
  • Proven organizational skills
  • Must have excellent time management skills
  • Ability to direct, coach and train others.
  • Consultative, influential, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

This position requires sufficient physical ability to work in a production setting.

FREQUENT: Ability to talk and hear; ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend and/or crouch; push/pull; lift up to 75 pounds; use of hands and fingers to operate machinery/equipment and all manual and electronic equipment in area of responsibility. Exposure to wet and humid conditions and fluctuations in ambient temperature (seasonal).

OCCASIONAL: Squatting, kneeling, ability to reach above and at shoulder height. Ability to wear a dust mask, and perform Confined Entry using LOTO program. Exposure to toxic and corrosive chemicals.

VISION: Ability to use close and distance vision, as well as color and peripheral vision with or without correction. Must be able to visually detect obstacles and potential dangers in a fast-paced production environment involving high speed equipment and powered industrial lift equipment.

HEARING: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Exposure to noise levels from pumps, machinery, forklift traffic, bottle lines and exhaust fans.
