This position would support the Department of Ophthalmology and Hospital Planning & Operations which includes managing the day-to-day operations of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute, represent the Department of Ophthalmology in key Medical School, University and community committees and bodies, as well as providing operational and planning support of the new integrated facilities of UT Medicine, including hospital planning efforts.Serve as the senior administrative partner to the Chair and other members of the Department senior leadership team across the mission pillars for the School and Departments. Purpose In partnership with the Chair and other senior leaders, contribute to the strategy, build and maintain programs, ensure appropriate fiduciary stewardship and operational excellence, and help steer the direction for the Departments. Coordinate department operations, budget development and financial reporting, faculty recruitment, and staff development. Expected to serve and contribute to hospital and integrated facilities of the future planning and clinical program development which will be a portion of the assignment and will grow over time. Responsibilities
Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. MBA, MHA, etc.) or equivalent high-level leadership experience. At least five (5) years of experience in leadership positions in health-related organizations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment with physician, scientist, educator, administrative, supervisory, and allied health staff. Demonstrated experience with managing a complicated and complex organization with multiple stakeholders. Strong financial and funds flow experience and acumen managing various sources of funding streams. High-level communication skills. Ability to exercise resourcefulness and good judgment in a fast-paced environment. Ability to manage multiple streams of work. Demonstrated excellent analytical skills, problem-solving ability and strong critical thinking skills. Proven success in operational excellence and performance improvement. The Dell Medical School is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to excellence within the learning health system. The successful candidate should have excellent communications skills, leadership abilities, and possess the highest ethical standards. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred QualificationsSpecific experience around establishing a departmental academic research infrastructure preferred. Previous experience in academic medicine is strongly preferred, including managerial expertise in clinical, academic, faculty affairs, training program administration, and/or clinical program development and operations in an academic setting.
