Job Description

The University of Missouri, Columbia is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in astronomy and astrophysics, with a particular emphasis on galaxy evolution and/or machine learning. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Charles Steinhardt as well as the broader astronomy group at Missouri. Candidates with a broad range of interests in observational and theoretical astronomy and astrophysics are particularly encouraged to apply.

A start date between June and August 2025 is preferred. The successful candidate will initially be appointed for one year, with the possibility of extension up to three years dependent upon performance and the availability of funding.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field by the time of appointment.

Candidates will be evaluated on:

  • their track record of impactful, independent research either in galaxy evolution or a related field
  • background either in working with large astronomical datasets or in data science
