The University of Minnesota Crookston, one of five campuses comprising the University of Minnesota system, invites applications for a full-time faculty member to teach classes in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education Department (HSSE) in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education. The ideal candidate will also be qualified to teach Special Education.

Position
Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Education (HSSE) Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota, starting August 2025. Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience, and a competitive fringe benefits package is offered. Final job offer is contingent upon receipt of official transcripts, complete background check, and authorization to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

The HSSE Department seeks a tenure-track faculty candidate who will join our teacher education unit and carry a full-time load of twelve credits per semester. The candidate will teach courses in early childhood education and elementary education. The UMN Crookston Teacher Education Unit is accredited by the Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB). In addition, the campus features an Early Childhood Development Center which is a state-of-the-art teacher training laboratory for education majors. Along with classroom instruction expectations, the successful candidate will:

  • Advise students;
  • Participate in recruitment and retention efforts;
  • Engage in department and campus service activities;
  • Enhance programs and student experiences;
  • Help expand our network within the field to benefit our programs, student experience, and student employment opportunities;
  • Provide service to the unit, department, and university;
  • Work collaboratively with faculty colleagues.

A tenure-track appointment carries a 24.0 credit hour workload per academic year, distributed over the fall and spring semesters.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral level degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Education or related field from a regionally accredited university, completed by the start of contract.
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a teacher of record in an early childhood and/or elementary classroom
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations and fostering social justice.
  • Knowledge and experience with program assessment
  • Passion for teaching and student-centered service
  • Ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to deliver effective teaching in both the on campus and online environments
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competency
  • Commitment to an experiential educational philosophy within the scope of the land grant mission

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 18 graduate credits in special education courses.
  • Experience teaching higher education foundational Special Education courses.
  • A scholarly research agenda that advances the field, including research and publication, Experience teaching online courses.
  • Experience with supervision of student teachers.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $65,000 - $75,000; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
