Job Description

The MU College of Engineering boasts a robust research culture, and is growing significantly. The College seeks a strategic thinker to lead and contribute to its Research Administration team and play an instrumental role in the growth and success of the college.

The Director organizes, encourages and engages in strategic, proactive, and capacity-building activities to grow the research enterprise in the College of Engineering. These activities are designed to facilitate individual faculty members, teams of researchers, and central research administration in attracting extramural research funding, creating relationships, and developing and implementing strategies that increase institutional competitiveness. The Director works closely with the Associate Dean for Research in Engineering to develop and implement strategic initiatives to foster a highly collaborative environment supporting the faculty and staff.

In addition, the Director is responsible for the leading the operations of Engineering Research Administration (ERA), including the following: hands on grant proposal development, organizing, developing and implementing research development activities, processes and initiatives; representing the ERA in interactions with MU faculty, staff, and administration, and with external entities; providing proposal development support; and managing a team of research professionals.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provides leadership & facilitates research planning and development: Develops and maintains a deep knowledge of faculty/staff expertise/research areas of interest and the competitive landscape of grant funding; helps form and support research interest groups; and coordinates multiple high-priority activities for the division.
  • Provides leadership and actively manages the Engineering Research Administration (ERA) team. Identifies and solves complex, operational and organizational problems leveraging the appropriate resources within or outside the ERA.
  • Leads large-scale, multidisciplinary, multi-institutional grant proposals, and provides proposal development support for high priority, strategic interdisciplinary proposals.
  • Creates and supports a grant seeking culture: Leads and facilitates training for faculty; distributes priority funding opportunities; and promotes and manages internal grant programs.
  • Collects, maintains and reports research development metrics related to the college and campus strategic plans.
Shift

Typically 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience, and at least 5 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $67,745 - $95,000 annually
Grade: GGS-012
