The Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Director of Nonprofit Management and Leadership within the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service. This position will include teaching responsibilities in a faculty of practice title.

About the RGK Center for Philanthropy and Community Service

The RGK Center, housed within the LBJ School, is a hub for research and education in nonprofit management, philanthropy, and social entrepreneurship. The Center provides a collaborative space for students and community members to build a vibrant and diverse global civil society. Through its student-centered, data-driven, and community-based initiatives, the RGK Center equips leaders to achieve significant social impact.

Director responsibilities

The Director of Nonprofit Management and Leadership will lead efforts to provide select technical assistance, policy advice and related support to strategically targeted nonprofits in Texas, the nation, or international contexts. To develop effective external initiatives, the Director is expected to undertake a needs-assessments of priority sectors. The Director will then develop a few targeted workshops, symposia, or trainings each year.

The Director will also collaborate with LBJ School internship coordinators to place students in nonprofit positions. Finally, the Director will collaborate with the LBJ School Dean to identify development and other external opportunities for growth.

The RGK Center will support this role with communications and event planning staff as well as funding for student internships with nonprofits.

Teaching responsibilities

As faculty of practice, the Director will teach nonprofit management and leadership courses to both degree-seeking students as well as midcareer executive education students at The University of Texas at Austin. While the focus of the courses may vary, relevant course topics include:



  • Fundraising Strategies & Skills for Nonprofits
  • Public and Private Sector Contracting with Nonprofits
  • Social Entrepreneurism (for-profit organizations with a pro-social purpose)
  • Nonprofit Board Development and Management
  • Strategic Planning & Leading Change within Nonprofits
  • Program Evaluation & Measuring Impact for Nonprofits
  • Innovative Uses Data and Technology in Nonprofit Management
  • Nonprofit Leadership & management in International Development


While teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on the qualifications of the Director and the needs of the school, candidates can expect to teach approximately four courses per year. This teaching role is expected to occupy approximately 70% of time associated with this position.

Qualifications

A master's degree is required. Record of teaching excellence at the college-level is also preferred.
