GENERAL SUMMARY:

Provides nursing and medical services to assigned psychiatry patients who have a mental disorder/illness according to the Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners as identified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners OR as a Physician Assistant provides psychiatric care and performs selective medical services under the direction of the supervising physician.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. Delivers psychiatric care in inpatient and/or outpatient and partial hospitalization clinical settings.

3. *Provides psychiatric evaluations for clients with pre-existing or newly diagnosed psychiatric disorders. Evaluates clients based on DSM-V criteria for the need for psychiatric interventions. Initiates treatment of psychiatric disorders.

4. *Conducts patient assessments using the biopsychosocial model including obtaining a relevant health and medical history; performs a physical examination when necessary based on age and history.

5. *Diagnoses patients by synthesizing and analyzing the collected data; formulates a differential diagnosis based on the history, physical examination, and diagnostic test results.

6. *Identifies and implements a patient treatment plan that may include ordering additional diagnostic tests; selects appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions; develops a patient education plan; shares comprehensive patient review with the treatment team.

7. *Implements patient care plans based on scientific principles, theoretical knowledge, and clinical specialty expertise; accurately conducts and interprets diagnostic tests; accurately prescribes pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacologic therapies; provides relevant patient education; makes referrals to other health professionals and community agencies as needed.

8. Participates as a team member in the provision of health and medical care; interacts and collaborates with professional colleagues to provide comprehensive care.

9. *Determines the effectiveness of patient treatment plans; documents patient care outcomes; reassesses and modifies treatment plans in concert with the treatment team as necessary to achieve health and medical goals.

10. *Accurately documents patient findings, treatment plans and evaluations; documents interventions appropriately to ensure coding compliance for reimbursement purposes.

11. Participates in on-call program, which may include after-hours, weekend and holiday calls.

12. *Maintains patient confidentiality per departmental and facility protocols and procedures.

13. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

14. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

15. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required. Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) required. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required. Prior psychiatry experience preferred.

OR

Graduate degree from a Physician's Assistant program required. Current licensure as a Physician Assistant required. Completion of Bryan credentialing and re-credentialing process required for employment. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority. Integrated practice agreement with supervising physician as required by Nebraska State law is mandatory. Prior psychiatry experience preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
