Job Description and Duties

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) is seeking a Deputy Superintendent who will assist the Superintendent within the Office of Correctional Education (OCE) to help achieve the goal of OCE in providing incarcerated individuals with the needed education and career training as part of a broader CDCR effort in increasing public safety and reducing recidivism.

The ideal candidate will be a people-centered leader with a proven capacity to build effective and mission-driven teams. Experience in a classroom; education administration; superintendent/executive leadership; and a valid administrative services credential is a must! This role will report to the Superintendent, collaborating and working cross-functionally with departmental leadership and management to engage with the CDCR team at all levels of the organization.

Up to 30 % Travel is required to CDCR adult institutions and facilities throughout the state of California.

The position is eligible for hybrid telework, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy and will be required to report to the office a minimum of two days per week and as needed/required. Specific telework schedules may be discussed further during the interview process. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.
