Junior/Assistant/Associate Specialist

Department of Psychiatry

University of California, San Francisco

We are seeking a highly motivated Junior/Assistant/Associate Specialist to join our team focused on investigating sleep and cardiovascular risk factors for Alzheimer's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease-Related Dementias (AD/ADRD). This position will involve managing, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data, including data from longitudinal population-based studies, clinical polysomnography, and electronic health records. Experience with multi-cohort data analyses, data harmonization, and machine learning is not required but is highly desirable. The analyst will collaborate closely with the rest of our research team, helping to prepare presentations and manuscripts focused on the link between sleep, other modifiable risk factors, and risk of AD/ADRD. Specific responsibilities include: performing statistical analyses on population-based and clinical data, including data from polysomnography and electronic health records; using appropriate techniques to clean and manage datasets; preparing reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results; assisting with interpretation of research findings; and contributing to the preparation of manuscripts, presentations, posters, and other materials.

Required Qualifications:



  • Junior Specialist- A bachelor's degree (or equivalent degree) or at least four years of research experience.
  • Assistant Specialist- Master's degree or a baccalaureate degree with three or more years of research experience.
  • Associate Specialist- A Master's degree (or equivalent degree) or five to ten years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in statistical or coding software (e.g., R, Python).
  • Demonstrable intrinsic curiosity, self-driven attitude, and the ability to be a fast learner. Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
  • Candidates must meet the required qualifications at the time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working with machine learning and/or artificial intelligence techniques.
  • Prior research experience in sleep and neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Data harmonization
