The Office of University Advancement is seeking to hire an experienced Advancement Writer (Temp). The Advancement Writer (Temp) will be a key member of the Donor Engagement & Communications (DEC) team and is responsible for developing content across various media, audiences, and platforms.

WHAT WILL YOU DO:

The position requires excellent editorial judgement and the ability to translate complex concepts to compelling content with the goal of inspiring audiences, strengthening engagement, and maximizing philanthropic support to Georgia State University. The position works in partnership with colleagues across the DEC team, the wider Advancement office, and with colleagues across the university.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Content Development: 60%



  • Develops content across multiple communications channels, campaigns, and initiatives, including for web, email, social, print, and digital; ensures editorial content reflects institutional engagement and fundraising priorities and supports the engagement, cultivation, and stewardship of key audiences.
  • Researches, writes, and edits content for a variety of Georgia State University print and digital communications, with a strong focus on powerful storytelling that advances philanthropic support of the university.
  • Gathers information for stories through interviews with subjects and sources, including donors, alumni, students, faculty, and others.
  • Assists in the researching and writing of proposals and fundraising marketing material.
  • Drafts content for large and small-scale events.
  • Monitors leadership messaging, institutional news and stories, and stays abreast of institutional initiatives.
  • Writes in accordance with institutional messaging, tone, and style.
  • Edits and proofs the work of others as needed.


Planning and Collaboration: 40%



  • Manages key communications projects, collateral, and initiatives.
  • Works proactively with colleagues to identify potential philanthropy stories; develops sources of information by establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with key faculty members and staff across GSU, as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with communications colleagues across the university to share information, place stories in institutional communications channels, and raise the visibility of philanthropy to internal and external audiences.
  • Proactively identifies communications needs and opportunities to further university advancement's goals.
  • Collaborates with colleagues on the team in shaping effective and compelling communications, bringing a creative, critical, and strategic approach to planning sessions.
  • Manages multiple concurrent projects to meet deadlines.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor's and two years of related experience; or a combination of education and experience.


Preferred Requirements:



  • Experience writing of proposals and fundraising marketing material.
  • Outstanding content development, writing and editorial skills.
  • Experience working on multiple, concurrent, varied and high priority writing projects.
  • General knowledge of and interest in GSU.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to audiences of different ages, backgrounds and familiarity with the institution and its mission.
  • Understanding of and facility with using various tones, voices, styles and techniques to clearly and most effectively convey a given message and drive desired outcomes.
  • Familiarity with fundraising communications strategies, messaging and/or tactics is desirable, as is experience in public relations, fundraising and/or persuasive writing.
  • Commitment to values and practices that advance an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Aptitude for strategic thinking and creative problem-solving.
  • Strong interviewing and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to participate in collaborative teams.
  • Creativity, initiative and a strong attention to detail.
