Resident Network Engineer, Staff

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States on-site

You will be responsible for working side-by-side with supporting the city of Philadelphia operations.

The Resident Engineer is an integral part of our mission within the enterprise sector, providing pre & post-sales support of Juniper Networks products. You will be part of a customer account that has experienced high, steady growth over the past few years. As an Extended Expertise Engineer, you will be the trusted advisor to our customers working on-site supporting our mission to help them quickly and completely adopt the Juniper portfolio of products. This is a highly technical role, and you will develop and maintain expert-level skill sets on our products and solutions deployed within the customer's environment.

Role Responsibilities:



  • To hold network information gathering workshops with the Customer to understand the Customer's existing network design and technical requirements of new network designs.
  • To understand the Customer's organizational structure and become familiar with the Customer's network implementation and support processes and procedures to help in supporting a network that is available and sustainable.
  • To carry out testing of new Designs, features, and functionality as required by the Customer in a laboratory environment and to help develop plans to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network.
  • To test patches and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the pre-production test network and then live network as implementation plans dictate.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and network problems and open and track JTAC cases to resolve problems on pre- and post-production issues.
  • To raise equipment, Return Material Authorizations (RMA's) and to track these through to problem resolution
  • To produce a written summary report of the status of Design projects, equipment and network problems regularly to the Customer
  • To hold technology workshops with the Customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and to provide case status updates, including the reasons for any problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried
  • To train the Customer's design, implementation, and support personnel to configure and operate the Juniper Networks products
  • To assist the Customer in developing Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures
  • Support the production environment of Juniper products within the Customer infrastructure
  • Support ongoing efforts in defining best practice policies for Juniper product applications used by CustomerJuniper Business Use Only
  • The Resident Engineer is expected to peer with other employees performing similar resident engineering roles where lessons learned may help minimize risk associated with major network upgrades or changes in the network.


The RE will be expected to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper product portfolio.

Required Background Qualifications:



  • Minimum 8 years of design, implementation, and operational experience in large-scale IP networks.
  • Learn, understand & fully align with the customer's business requirements.
  • JUNOS CLI experience.
  • Must have large-scale experience with SRX Juniper hardware
  • Prior Work experience at a large enterprise or a Data Center with EVPN/VXLAN experience
  • Experience with core routing BGP, OSPF, ISIS protocols.
  • Experience with supporting LNS (L2TP Network Server) LNS L2TP, DHCP, radius subscriber services
  • Experience with supporting BNG PPPoE, RADIUS, Policy Control and Enforcement, QoS
  • Experience with MPLS, VPLS, L2VPNs.
  • Experience with design and/or deployment of routing and switching products within the Customer infrastructure.
  • Mist wired and wireless assurance
  • Datacenter automation with Juniper Apstra
  • Experience with SDC ( Security Director Cloud)
  • Experience with Working knowledge of TLS
  • Experience with JSA (Juniper secure analytics) SIEM
  • Experience with JSI (juniper support insights)
  • SD-WAN with 128T
  • SSL FP (forward proxy)
  • EWF (enhanced web filtering)
  • Experience with IDP (Intrusion Detection and Prevention)
  • Experience with JIMS (Juniper Identity Management service)
  • User-based firewall
  • Good understanding of EVPN/VXLAN
  • IPv6, Multicast, L3VPNs, L2Circuits Experience in fault isolation logic and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in crises with all levels of an organization from Engineering/Operations to CIO/CISO audiences.
  • Ability to refine and translate complex requirements and execute best practice solutions.
  • Assisted with major network upgrades, maintenance windows, and changes in the customer network.
  • Strong customer interface and presentation skills.
  • Customer education - TOI's and Lunch & Learns.
  • Other tasks and duties as needed to support the customer and/or business
  • Expert-level Technical Certifications: JNCIS, JNCIP, JNCIE, CCNP, and CCIE a strong plus.



Minimum Salary: $118,976.00

Maximum Salary:$171,028.00

The pay range for this position is expected to be between $118,976.00 and $171,028.00/year; however, the base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes medical benefits, 401(k) eligibility, vacation, sick time, and parental leave. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Juniper's pay range data is provided in accordance with local state pay transparency regulations. Juniper may post different minimum wage ranges for permanent residency petitions pursuant to US Department of Labor requirements.
