Job Summary

Perform routine maintenance on all plumbing equipment, including packing and replacing valves, medical gas piping, and installing new plumbing fixtures throughout the Medical Center. You will perform preventative maintenance procedures and ensure a prompt response to requests for repairs. Modify and expand these systems as required for building infrastructure remodels and expansions.

Plumbers will work in cooperation with other skilled crafts mechanics to ensure all specification, legislation and policies are met, and to ensure efficient completion of projects. Providing adequate services will ensure that all water supply networks, waste and drainage systems are installed, repaired and maintained to meet all standards of building codes and safety.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid California Driver's License
  • Possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey level craftsperson in Plumbing.
  • Exhibits an extensive background in plumbing.
  • Experience with the proper use and operational characteristics of maintenance equipment and tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 6010 Medical Gas Certification
  • Plumbing maintenance experience.
  • Experience with hospital plumbing.
  • Must possess effective verbal, listening, written and presentation skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with other skilled crafts mechanics.
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Department Overview

The Plant Operations & Maintenance (PO&M) Department is a 24 hour, seven day a week operation responsible for the operation, repair and maintenance of buildings, systems, and grounds at the UC Davis Health System that includes 148 acres and structures that total 4 million GMSF. Plant Operations & Maintenance is one of the largest operations and maintenance support providers to clinical, administrative, research, SOM and SON departments throughout the Health System. UC Davis Health System is one of several UC campuses that have their own cogeneration, central power plants. Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) is the simultaneous production of electricity and heat, both of which are used throughout the Medical Center Campus and is supported by Plant Operations & Maintenance 24x7x365.
