The Highlights:
Under the immediate supervision of the Head of the Loop Library, the Evening Part-time Reference Librarian is responsible for providing research help services to library users in person at the Loop Library and via virtual Ask a Librarian services.

Work in a highly supportive, collegial culture that encourages active participation in meaningful and valuable skills training and professional development. This includes training workshops, committee memberships, and engagement in programs that support the Library's mission and its Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility goals, while building connections and partnerships across DePaul' s wider academic and user community.

What You'll Do:



  • Provides research assistance and one-to-one instruction to library users online and in-person. Provides information literacy instruction online and in-person for the first-year writing program.
  • Works cooperatively with other library and university departments to provide materials and services for faculty, students, staff and other affiliated users.
  • Works on specific assigned projects, such as the creation and maintenance of online research guides, and/or other instructional support.
  • Depending on scheduling, may be responsible for opening and/or closing the Reference Department or Library site, and/or supervising student assistants.



What You'll Need:


  • ALA-Accredited MLS/MLIS degree required.
  • Reference experience required, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Familiarity with academic library resources required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software; ability to type accurately; excellent communication skills; ability to work independently
  • This position is part-time, budgeted currently at 16-20 hours per week; reduced hours may occur during summer and intersessions.
  • Hours are Monday through Thursday 4pm-8pm.
  • This position is based at DePaul's Loop Library located in downtown Chicago; occasional travel to the Lincoln Park campus may be required.
  • This position is fully on-site.
