Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Facilities Operations Unit reports directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management and is responsible for the planning, repair, renovation and maintenance of all
NCCU facilities. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary purpose of this position is to perform building trades work, including but not limited to carpentry, painting, glazing, welding, metal fabrication, electrical, masonry, roofing, sheet rock finishing, and various other repairs. Complete building renovations involving all the above technical services. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
The successful candidate should possess:
- Knowledge of the standard practices and methods of carpentry, roofing, painting, and masonry trades
- Knowledge of tools and materials used in repairing and constructing wooden articles
- Knowledge of elementary arithmetic and units of measure
- Knowledge of the safety precautions of the various trades.
- Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, or sketches
- Ability to make accurate arithmetical calculations
- Ability to perform tasks which require walking, standing, bending, stooping, and working in awkward positions
- Ability to lift moderately heavy objects cutting, bending, securing, wrapping, or finishing the surface of pipes, vents, ducts, drywall, and other materials
- Skilled in the use of carpenters' hand tools and woodworking machines
- Skilled in mixing paints and in matching and blending colors
- Skilled in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the variously assigned trades.

Minimum Education/Experience |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. |

Performs a variety of recurring and non-recurring tasks/functions. These asks/functions may involve related or
varying processes to test, renovate, overhaul, replace, and perform preventive maintenance on standard building systems. Provides technical assistance to others by
troubleshooting standard facilities maintenance issues and determining their cause. Mentors other technicians.
Duties: Provide emergency unscheduled repairs, reads and interprets work orders to perform maintenance. Use a variety of hand and power tools, and material handling equipment in performing duties. Basic understanding of carpentry, minor maintenance roofing and painting, make minor maintenance and aesthetical changes to electrical and plumbing fixtures. |
